Edna Scherle

Obituary of Edna Elizabeth Scherle

Edna Scherle was born November 8, 1931 on the family farm near Langbank, SK and passed away March 9, 2022, at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK

She is survived by her loving daughters, Heather McCaslin (Regina, SK) and Carol Johnston (Ottawa, ON) and her beloved grandchildren Kelly McCaslin, Brenden Foley and Liam Foley.  She also leaves to mourn her sister and best friend Phyllis Kerrigan (Petrolia, ON); sister-in-law Anne Bruce (Kindersley, SK); and many nieces and nephews across Canada. Edna was predeceased by her husband Ernest (Ernie) Scherle in 1997; her parents Wesley and Myrtle (Law) Bruce; her brothers Harold, Ward, Byron, Andrew, Alfred and Wallace; her sister, Margaret; sister-in-law Alice Roche and brother-in-law Norman Scherle.

Edna was the youngest of nine children and often told stories of growing up on the farm during the Dirty Thirties. As a teenager, she moved to Whitewood, SK and then to Moose Jaw, SK to train as a Registered Nurse at the Union Hospital.  It was there she met her husband, Ernie, and together they moved to Regina, SK. Later in her career, she worked at the Sears Call Centre, a job she enjoyed immensely, until retiring at the age of 69.

She loved music, playing the piano and singing in choirs. She also enjoyed travelling, playing bridge and whist, and lively discussions about politics. Her final home was at College Park II Retirement Residence where she enjoyed participating in many activities and socializing. Thank you to the staff of College Park II for making her years there so memorable.

Also, thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Palliative Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital for the care of Edna in her final days. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.   In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Regina Humane Society, Box 3143, Regina, SK, S4P 3G7.
