It was 50 years ago that Tom and I both became boarders at our Gramma and Grampa Coombes’ home in Calgary. Tom was the cool cousin I looked up to because he was there to attend the University of Calgary, while I was just desperately trying to finish high school.
I’d like to share a fond memory about Tom. He had a passion for Saltine Crackers (who eats saltine crackers, right?!). I remember one night we were sitting across the table from each other while he was chowing down on his crackers, and I said ‘Um, Tom, like don’t you need some cheese or something on those’? I can still see the goofy little grin on his face as he replied ‘Nope, I love them straight out of the box’! He just totally cracked me up!
Tom was a fun ‘roommate’ and a real inspiration to me. He made me realize the importance of furthering my education so that I could pursue my dreams of a career. He was, of course, absolutely correct. Thank you, Tom! I only wish I would have thanked you sooner.

To: Donna, Tommy, David, Tracie and Laird families.
I met Tom 42 years ago. He was a driven successful Phone Power Sales consultant at the time. He knew then that he was focusing on bigger, more successful things, and he did. He did it by GROWING people. I was pleasantly surprised to see how many people on Facebook said that Tom was their MENTOR and helped them believe in themselves, and their ability. I was one of those.
We have been close friends for many years and it was always Tom building me up when I was down. He was very positive in helping others even after his retirement through the Therapy Horse program
One of my fond memories is him playing lead guitar in a pickup Rock band for my retirement party in 2004. We had fun even if the crowd didn’t . He was a hoot!
I’m missing him already as his passing stabs my heart. I know all of us will be sustained by the great memories he instilled in our hearts and minds. Love you Tom! Thanks for the great memories

To Donna, Tracie, Thomas, David and Family,
We offer our sincere sympathies to the family for the passing of a wonderful and caring person such as Tom. My parents Helen and Claude, and my brother Pierre had the opportunity and the gift of knowing Tom and Donna. My parents loved Tom and Donna as their own family members. I only met Tom and Donna a few times in Ottawa in 2018 and felt as if I had known both of you for years. Tom will live on in our memories forever. Our prayers are with you.
