Dear Sweet Hilarious Jim,
i met you while I was attending Luther College. You were one of the funniest people I have ever met in my entire life! I used to roll on the floor laughing when you would call and proceed to tell me joke after quip after joke. I always thought you should be a writer for one of the comedians in Hollywood.
I will treasure my days of knowing you and tears come to my eyes as I am writing this.
I know how proud you were of Jeannie and how much you loved Donna and family life. I am so glad that we kept in touch with letters and emails for such a long time.
if I should ever get to heaven, I will request sitting next to you for eternity!
God bless you Jim you're one in 1 million!!!

I'll never forget the day I first met Uncle Big Head...
When my parents (Bill and Debra Scarfe) took us up to Lac La Ronge one summer, they told us that we would be meeting a new Uncle and that his name was Uncle Big Head. Well, I sat in my seat for some time before we arrived, puzzling over what I had just heard. I thought that I must have miss heard his name. And so when I did finally meet him, I was very sure to pronounce and announciate my words carefully, as I was very little at the time. I said it's nice to meet you Uncle Big Ed! Well he just shook his head and said "Well... I'll just call you Hank!" I should mention that at this time I was going through a phase where my name was Jennifer and ONLY Jennifer. I was very offended and started to cry while everyone had a chuckle. It was indeed funny, but of course it took me few years to find the humor in it! From that point on my family nick name was Hank. Every time I saw Uncle Big Head, he'd say, "Well hello Hank!" In time we were both laughing.
It was such a privilege to know him and to receive his love. I know that his passing must be very difficult for all of you, so we send our love whole-heartedly to lift you up in your time of need. It bring us peace to know that he has been returned with full faculty of body and mind and that he is awaiting us with his kindness and humor on the other side.
All our love
Jennifer (Scarfe), Geert, Saphera and Addica

I had the opportunity to work with Jim who was an amazing person, dedicated teacher and mentor to many of the students and even the staff. He was quite a charming, intelligent person with an incredible sense of humour which delighted us all!!!!
Jim was a great supporter of the library at 8th Avenue North/SIAST and encouraged his students to visit and access the different resources. I learned much from him over the years while I was with Library services ... he would often recommend various titles and authors that we should consider adding to the collection. I was often amazed with his insightful opinions and advice and often shared his spirited point of view with many of us.
One will never forget Jim who was such a wise informed person and caring teacher and human being. I will always treasure the memories of conversations with him and his special laugh. He always knew the right way to approach people and the right thing to say or do!!!!

Jim Scarfe was a delight and a unique human being with a beautiful balance of heart, mind, love and humor! I was blessed to work with Jim as a fellow-traveler on the path of adult basic education, working as ABE instructors at SIAST, Regina Campus. We were part of a great group of dedicated teachers, and I have wonderful memories of our work time at the 8th Avenue North Centre. Jim was a skilled, insightful teacher with all kinds of students who were starting their journey through adult education and beyond. Jim was able to connect with each student, and give each one special daily training support with personal understanding and care. He was the model of specialized adult teaching! And Jim loved to gather fellow teachers together at lunches and coffee breaks for discussions on education and life. And we all loved his incredible sense of humor any day any time! Jim will be remembered with great affection. - Jack Mitchell
