Obituary of Evelyn Lenore Jay

With sadness we announce the passing of Evelyn Lenore Bradshaw/Jay in Regina on Friday May 6, 2022.

Evelyn was born near Southey, SK and also lived in the Pleasantdale area.  After attending country schools for several years she graduated from Balfour Collegiate in Regina.  Evelyn continued her education at Normal school in Moose Jaw and obtained her teaching certificate.  Her teaching career started in a country school north of Southey and she had not yet reached her 17th birthday!  After 4 years of teaching in country schools, Evelyn took a number of years off to raise her family with James Bradshaw, a farmer from Dysart, whom she met and married in 1950. Together they built a thriving farm and were very actively involved in their community.  Evelyn returned to teaching in Lestock, SK in the mid-sixties and later, while working full time, enrolled in classes from U of R to complete her B.Ed.  James passed away in 1979 creating a huge hole in her life.

In 1990, Evelyn met an old high school mate, Bert Jay and they married later that year.  They enjoyed their condo life in downtown Regina as well as a summer home near B-Say-Tah Beach.  They also treasured many world-wide travel opportunities.  Bert passed away in 2019.

Evelyn is survived by son, Brian (Paula); son, Barry (Janet); daughter, Jackie and son, Bruce (Kathy), as well as 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022 with a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Lipton Cemetery.  A short program, social and lunch will follow at the Dysart Community Centre at 2:30 p.m.
