What heartbreaking news to see that Peter has returned to the stars that he spent countless hours studying. Beyond school in Lumsden, I also connected with Peter in University at the U of S. His love for astronomy and comprehension of computer science blew my mind. His scholarly ambitions were beyond anyone I've ever know. I can still see him, looking at me through the side of his eyes, with a cheeky little grin, waiting for me to respond after telling me of his discoveries. His fascinating mind traveled to places very few wondered. What a gifted Soul with a unique perspective on life. Only last month he popped into my memory and had I known how to find him, I surely would have reached out. Now I wish I could have had the chance to talk to him one more time. I was so sorry to hear of Peter’s passing. Though it’s been years since I’ve seen him, we did attend school together. He was always a constant in my school days. I saw him walking home after school ever day and everyone knew who he was. Though time goes on and people don’t see one another anymore, it still pulls at the heart strings when you hear of a passing of a schoolmate. I hope he enjoyed his 42 years doing the things he loved and spending time with people who shared his likes and joys. My condolences.

Dear Mr. and Mrs Marttela, I`m so very sorry to hear of Peters passing. I have fond memories of growing up and going to school in Lumsden with Peter. He was always a kind gentle soul and I am very saddened to hear of his passing. I remember his love of science and had heard through classmates that he did well in university, which always warmed my heart to hear. While our paths after high school as adults did not cross, he often came to mind fondly when remembering our childhood days. The loss of a son is so very hard. My prayers go out to you both. Dear Ron and Anneli, With great sadness I learned of Peter's passing a few days ago. Since then I have been reminiscing about our time together at Lumsden Elementary and High Schools and keeping him in my thoughts. Over the years since graduation I have often wondered what Peter was doing and how he was getting along. He was famous at school for always being top of the class. I remember his passion for astronomy, keen intellect and insatiable appetite to learn about nature and the science that helps explains this Earth. Most importantly, Peter had a kind soul and a fun, subdued sense of humour. He was a quiet man and I always enjoyed when he would laugh. The world is an emptier place without Peter and I send you my deepest regrets. Michael Huber
