Audrey STEFFAN (CAMPBELL)

May 14, 1960 – September 13, 2022

It is with profound grief that the family of Audrey Steffan of White City, SK announce her passing on September 13, 2022 at the age of 62 years after a year long battle with cancer.

Audrey was born in Esterhazy, SK, the second of five children of Kenneth and Doreen Campbell.  At a young age, the family moved to Moose Jaw and then to Saskatoon to settle and it is there that Audrey spent most of her childhood years.  After graduating from Mount Royal high school, Audrey attended the University of Saskatchewan for a short time before pursuing a job opportunity with the provincial government in Regina.

Audrey flourished in her career, having held numerous positions in many departments, beginning with the Ministry of Finance where she spent the majority of her career.  It was there that she found her true calling in the computer and information technology areas.  She rose up the ranks and was assigned to various positions in the Information Technology Office, Central Services and most recently, Sask Builds and Procurement as Director of IT Project Management.  Audrey had a rare longevity in her career, spanning over 40 years!  She loved her work and was very proud of her accomplishments and was a strong leader, built lasting relationships and was a mentor to new employees that came on board.  She always looked out for them and did what she could to help them progress and many went on to their own successful careers.  Many times, she sacrificed being with her own family in favour of allowing her co-workers to have time off during holiday seasons.

Audrey met the love of her life, Rod, while they both worked at Sask Finance.  However, it wasn’t until a few years later that fate played its hand and brought them together permanently.  They were married for 18 years, but side by side for nearly 24 years.

Family was very important to Audrey, and she loved spending time with all of her siblings and nieces and nephews, especially the annual camping trips and holiday season.  Audrey was extremely generous and thoughtful, giving of her own time and support, and if you mentioned in passing that you needed something, there it was as the next birthday or Christmas present!  In true Audrey fashion, her last act of generosity was to donate her corneas so that others could have the gift of sight.

A kind and gentle soul, Audrey loved and treasured small animals (cats were her favourite!), her nieces and nephews as small children, and even small stuffed animals.  Anything soft and fuzzy, Audrey would be attracted to it.  She also had a penchant for lilies and spent many hours looking for unique colours to plant in her backyard “Lily Patch”.

Much to Rod’s delight, Audrey was also an incredible cook and constantly experimented with new dishes and spices.  Whenever they went out to eat and found a dish they both liked, Audrey would more often than not successfully duplicate it at home.

Audrey also had a passion for tracing her family history and spent many hours researching and compiling information on her ancestors.  She also enjoyed reading and was often happiest curled up on the couch or in bed with a good book.

Audrey was incredibly brave throughout her journey with cancer, trying every suggested option without hesitation.  This was a testament to how much she wanted to live and loved life.  But in the end the cancer proved to be too hard to battle any longer.

Audrey was predeceased by her parents, Kenneth and Doreen Campbell, niece Michelle Best, brother-in-law Glen Best, father-in-law Fred Steffan.  She leaves to mourn, her loving husband Rod, sisters Cheryl Best – Andrea (Austin, Ryker and Declan), Derek (Kristina) (Leland, Rylan and Shaelyn) and Lonna Armstrong – Kyle (Alanna) (Carter, Kale, Kashton and Cade), Kara-Lynn (Dominic), brothers Daryl Campbell (Bianca) – Robert (Angela) (Marcus and Charlie), Kyla and Brenden and Darren Campbell – Justin, Carter, Tanner and Shandra, mother-in-law Emily Steffan, sister-in-law Charleen (Kim) Tubman – Landon (Abby) (Wagner and Maci), Braden (Sharlese) (Aurora and Kylie), Chandra (Tyler) (Rowynn).

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the Palliative Home Care team and the staff in Unit 3B Oncology and Unit 3A Palliative Care at the Pasqua Hospital that assisted Audrey in her final months and days, they were all truly angels.
