In the company of her children, Dorothy May Palmer passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 29, 2022, in Regina, SK, at the age of 86.

Dorothy was born in Silton, SK, on May 7, 1936. She grew up there, tending houses to help some of the older residents in town and teaching swimming and lifeguarding at nearby Last Mountain Lake. After graduating from Silton’s one room schoolhouse and attending business school, she worked as a clerk for Government Insurance. She was married in Silton in 1959 and after living in a few smaller towns, Dorothy moved to Regina, SK, with her husband George and their four children.

Dorothy had a long career in the hospitality industry. She worked at Oscars during its heydays at the Vagabond on South Albert Street in Regina, SK. Dorothy stayed at the Vagabond working in banquets, as it became the Travelodge. She later moved to the Delta Regina where she worked as a banquet captain until her retirement. Dorothy loved interacting with the thousands of people her career put her in contact with. She was very involved with all her grandchildren. Dorothy loved spending time with the grandchildren, passing on her grandmotherly wisdom, or just making sure their noses were clear. Grandma cared deeply about how they were doing.

Dorothy’s home was and always will be Silton, Saskatchewan. Born and raised there, she returned frequently to visit her mom and dad, and later, to keep up to date visiting friends and attending the annual Senior’s Supper. Dorothy always put in an effort to keep her roots in Silton. An interment of Dorothy’s ashes will take place in the Silton Cemetery at a later date, truly making Silton her forever home.

She leaves to mourn her sister Lilian (Len); four children Shelly (Ross), Janice (Les), Mark (Jerri-Lynn), Lisa (Sunny), along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, George and May Burrows; sisters Eilene and Joyce; and by her husband, George. The family wishes to thank the staff at Elmview Extendicare for their excellent and compassionate care for Dorothy over the past three and a half years. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina SK, on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Rev. Cam Fraser. Interment of Dorothy's ashes will take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Dorothy's name to the Alzheimer's Society and can help change lives.
