Thanks for inviting me to join you today.. It was a lovely tribute to your mother and to a life well lived. Mel had so many experiences and memories to share. I'm glad you were able to incude those thoughts.
I treasure our visits with Ted and her in Regina at their home and in Saskatoon when I received my Education Degree. We also had several nice chats with her in regards to our Megaffin..McGaffin family tree. Our grandfathers James and William were Brothers and Mel and I were second cousins. My mother , Margaret Long nee McGaffin was very close to Mel and Mel's mother. I remember her mom visiting us at the farm. My Dad, Donald Long, was a good friend of Ted. Family meant a lot to Mel, and it's good that her Legacy is continuing.
Bless all of you today. Her love for you all will be with you always.
Linda Holt nee Long..McGaffin

Jan,Joy,Jill and families. I’m sorry to hear of your mothers passing. She was always very kind to me and although we were miles apart, we did contact each other occasionally. In her later years we seemed to drift apart. I will treasure her friendship. God bless all of you and may Mel rest in peace forever. Liz Bright

We were saddened to hear of your Mother’s passing. I remember the friendship between your parents and mine during those years in Maymont and it continued through the years even after your family moved to Regina. We wish all of you the peacefulness that comes from all of the special memories each of you and your families hold within your hearts!
With sympathy

Dear family of Mel: I met Mel about 21 yrs. ago when we were both very interested in our family history. She and I are third cousins through our Megaffin/McGaffin branch. We corresponded for quite a while and it was a real pleasure to meet her when I was travelling from my home in Ontario to Alberta and beyond. I was reading over some of our correspondence the other day and wondered if she was still with us. I see that she lived well into her nineties which is nice to know. My mother lived to be 92 who also descended from James McGaffin and Elizabeth Watson through Dorothy McGaffin who was my mother's maternal grandmother. I send you my condolences on your loss but want you to know I enjoyed our relationship very much albeit short and at a distance. Cousin, Sunday Dawn Robinson-Moran, Vittoria, On., sunday@flarenet.com

Dear Jan, Joy and Jill: My son, David, in Moose Jaw has sent me your mother’s obituary. My heart is sad because I have lost a Treasured Friend.
Mel and I met in 1967 when we both joined the Regina Newcomers Club. We liked each other right from the start and we shared some happy times while we lived in Regina. After we moved back to Ontario and other places Mel and I maintained our friendship with long letters, photos, cards, phone calls and the occasional visit. In 1982 when we lived in London, England, Mel came and spent a few days with me. Larry got us passes for Trooping the Colour at Horse Guards Parade and we were so excited to see the Queen up so close! Afterwards we decided to go to a restaurant for a bite of supper. We gave our order to the waitress and asked for tea. After waiting and waiting - and endless cups of tea - the waitress came and told us that the chef had quit in a huff and there would be no meals that night! We have often laughed about this.
When David retired in Moose Jaw, I often came out to visit him and I always spent a couple of days in Regina with Ted and Mel - these are happy memories. Now both have left us. I am sad that Mel has died but I am also happy that she lived and that we shared so many years of friendship. I send my sincere condolences to you and your families. Mel was so proud of all of you and I was always pleased to hear what the grandchildren were up to.
Perhaps you would let me know when you plan Mel’s memorial service.
Love, Marilyn Wagg in Ottawa

The passing of Mel Turner reminds one that she was a classic example of what is best about people in this province. Whether she was supporting her husband and three lovely daughters as a farm house wife and mother or later as the wife of a top farm organization executive Mel was warm, considerate, intelligent and thoughtful. Her church was important to her and so were the disadvantaged and poor.I found her to be a talented writer and always looked forward to her Christmas letters. She was a generous and welcoming hostess and a formidable player on curling ice (our province's official sport) and she was quite at home on the golf course. I remember well skiing behind Mel and Ted in a raging snow storm at one level on Whistler Mountain B.C. She was a great lady. Deepest sympathy to that fine family and many friends. We miss Ted and now we have Mel to miss. God bless her.
