It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kathy Anne (Ferner) Harte, previously Kathy Petrychyn. Kathy was predeceased by her husband Doug Harte as well as various cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
Kathy was born in Regina on April 22, 1958, to Ben and Clara Ferner. She grew up in the farming community of Kronau, SK, with her parents and 5 siblings. She graduated from Greenall High School in 1976 and went on to receive her BSc. in Computer Science from the University of Regina in 1980.
Kathy was a respected professional, a community builder, a wife, a mom, and a friend. She worked for SaskTel and SaskTel International as a Senior Software Developer and later as a consultant. Kathy was extremely intelligent and was known as the “go-to” person often assigned to manage or “fix” the most challenging projects. She was very involved in her boy’s activities and schools and often stepped up to volunteer and organize things in the community. Kathy was a humble, hard-working, and compassionate person. She had an infectious laugh and a quiet, kind, gentle demeanor. She had a way of accepting everyone for who they were and where they were at. Kathy was amazing at asking the right questions and helping others come up with their own solutions. She was interested in others and how she could help and support them. Kathy was strong in her faith and her conviction of her life’s purpose and touched the lives of many.
She will be missed and is lovingly remembered by her sons Curtis Petrychyn (Heather) and Kevin Petrychyn, her parents Clara and Ben Ferner, and her siblings Jeff Ferner (Colleen), David Ferner, Danny Ferner (Brenda), Rose Sterzer (Tim), and Colleen Smith (Mike), as well as her grandchildren Wyatt, Gavin, and Rocco. She will also be deeply missed by her uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as her very close friends, especially Donna and Julie and the father of her children Wayne Petrychyn (JoAnne).
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street in Regina, SK, on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. with a brief program beginning at 7:00 p.m. A private church service will be dedicated to Kathy on Friday, November 18, 2022.
