Dear Helen and family,
It was such shock to hear of Michael's sudden passing. I had known Michael since my university days at U of R and counted him among my dearest and closest friends. We met at the Bilingual Centre and he was involved in some of the activities of the Summer Language Program, run then under the guidance of Dr. Bernard Wilhelm. I brought him into the planning of the Royal Visit (Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip in 1978) for the purpose of planning the trip to Yorkton on the train - at the time he was part of Transport 2000 - an organization in place for the purpose of encouraging train travel. He succeeded me as Director of Protocol for Saskatchewan and fulfilled the role with the greatest aplomb and competence. The number of successful Royal visits together with so many other accomplishments in an area of endeavour in which so much can go wrong (trust me, I know.. ) are proof of his adroitness in so many ways. We kept in touch over the years either when he visited Toronto or when I returned to my home province of Saskatchewan. I still remember his comforting words, by telephone, when I was visiting my mother, then in a coma in hospital in Wolseley.
My life and that of my family connected in other important ways as well: his and Helen's adoption of their daughter, Sarah Anne, led us to our adoption of our daughter Alana.
I continue to feel the loss of Michael as a friend and will greatly miss dropping in for visits when visiting in Regina.

To Michael's family I extend heartfelt condolences. Michael was an extraordinary individual, recognised far and wide for his many accomplishment in diverse fields. I, along with other Canadian members of the Royal Victorian Order, travelled to England with Michael in 2019. He was a most gracious, knowledgeable and interesting person with whom to travel. Michael has done so much to broaden public discourse on the role of the future of the Crown in Canada. He will be sorely missed by so many, but his knowledge, wisdom and dedication will live on in his published works, and, equally important, in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him.

Dearest Helen and family.
I am so sorry for your loss.
I met Michael at the 2016 Conference of the Crown held at Government House in Victoria, BC. Michael's commanding and calming presence was something I admired and always found inspiring. I recall sharing a secret with Michael that day as we set up in the Ballroom. My family and I were applying for a move to Regina with the RCMP, and he was the first one to know. I asked if I could keep his number with the hopes that I could connect with Helen and Michael again. Much to my surprise, I arrived at St. Paul's Anglican Church to see them in the pews. God had a plan.
I will forever hear Deacon Michael Jackson's singing voice when responding to intercession with "Lord have mercy." I am so grateful for the lessons he shared regarding faith practices and the protocol of the Church. Michael was a wonderful gift to all who were lucky enough to know him.
Peace be with Michael and peace be with you in your grief. Sending my love.

I first had the honour of meeting Mr Jackson when Her Majesty visited Regina in 2005. He was a kind and gentle man. He was eager to share his knowledge with others. His understanding of Royal protocol ensured every Royal visit to Saskatchewan was memorable for residents as well as for the Royal family I'm sure. Thank you to his family for sharing this wonderful man with us.
