Jean Housdorff (Nepper, Dombowsky, Carr)

December 4, 1931 - December 23, 2022

With profound gratitude for her life, Jean’s family sadly announces her passing on December 23, 2022, in Regina. She was 91 years old. Jean was one of the most loving, caring, generous, strong, and amazing spirits that walked this earth. 

 Jean was born in Rouleau, Saskatchewan on December 4, 1931, to Peter and Lena Nepper. She was raised with five sisters and one brother on their homestead in Diana. Jean attended Notre Dame College from elementary school through to university and received her teaching degree from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick. It was in Wilcox that Jean met the love of her life, Hugh Carr (Dombowsky) and they married in 1953.  Hugh and Jean spent their first year of marriage teaching in Bienfait, Saskatchewan.  They returned to their beloved Notre Dame, and both taught there while raising their four children. After Hugh passed away in 1972, Jean and her young family moved into Regina where she continued to teach, volunteer, and participate in social clubs. Through a former student from Bienfait, Jean met her second love, Stan Housdorff, and they married in 1990. Jean and Stan lived in Estevan and Regina and were partners for 30 years, until Stan’s death in 2020. 

 Jean was an amazing host. Her homes were nurturing and comfortable places to be. Guests were always welcome to share a meal, have a cup of coffee, play a game of cards, or stay when they needed a bed or place to live. Jean had a genuine interest in people - she knew how to connect people and live in community. 

 Jean had the ability to sustain relationships throughout her long life. She made friends everywhere she went, no matter their age and circumstances. She was a storyteller par excellence, and a good story always found her. Her love of the theatrical kept everyone laughing and full of amazement. 

 Jean was a devout Catholic and modelled Christian values in all that she did. She inspired many through her thoughts and actions.  She had a keen sense to notice what was not always obvious and generously offered her wisdom. Her last words to those gathered around her were, “Be good but have fun”.  

 Jean was deeply loved, cherished by many, and filled our lives with more blessings than can be imagined. 

She leaves to mourn her loss; daughters Michelle Carr (Mo Bundon), Paula Carr; and son Mike Carr; grandchildren Andrea McCaughan  (David) , Johanna Bundon (Jayden Pfeifer); and great grandchildren Amos, Hannelor, Hugh and Edward. She was a second mother to many of her nieces and nephews and their spouses and welcomed stepdaughters Cathy Housdorff and Linda Debienne. 

 She was predeceased by parents Lena and Peter; husbands Hugh Carr and Stan Housdorff; son John Carr; brother Ambrose Nepper (Mary); and sisters Kathleen, Mary (Harold and Tom), Dorothy (Guy), Rose (Dean), and Genevieve (Bob). 

The family would like to thank staff and friends at Broadway Terrace and College Park 2 for their heartfelt care during her last years of life. 

A Funeral Mass and Celebration of life will be held at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Parish, Wilcox, SK at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choosing.
