Obituary of Thelonious James Gibbs

The Gibbs family is devastated to announce the passing of our sweet boy, Thelonious (Theo) James Gibbs, on Friday, December 30, 2022, at the age of 18. 

Theo is survived by his parents, Kory & Dana Gibbs; his brothers, Townes & Ali; his grandparents, Dennis & Elizabeth Gibbs and Dennis & Judith Lloyd; his aunt Cara (Andy) Simpson and his cousin Bennett; his uncle Tyler (Jennie) Lloyd and his cousins Ardenn, Tayen, Marek & Brogan; as well as numerous great-aunts, great-uncles and second cousins. 

Thelonious was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on August 30, 2004. The oldest of three boys, Theo was born with a spunk and zest for life. He always wanted to be part of what was happening. Theo wore his heart on his sleeve. If he loved you, you knew it. Throughout his childhood, he attended St. Gregory School, Archbishop MC O’Neill and Martin Collegiate, where he graduated in 2022. Always the underdog, he developed a love of sport as part of the Hockey Regina community, North Regina Little League and Baseball Regina, deciding in 2020 to go all in and pursue his dream of playing college baseball. He worked his tail off day in and day out, to make it. He wanted to get better all the time. In the spring of 2022, he committed to Lassen Community College in Susanville, California, a dream come true. Theo couldn’t wait to become a Cougar. Theo’s time in Susanville was cut short, due to a shoulder injury. He returned home to seek treatment and was set to return to Susanville in January of 2023. 

Theo was a kindhearted kid, who would do anything for his friends and family. He absolutely loved being an athlete. He was serious, yet lighthearted in his role as a leader and role model to younger athletes. While training and playing on his own teams, he often volunteered his time coaching, never missing an opportunity to build someone up. He loved the game of baseball with every inch of his being. He loved the personal challenges the game gave him, both mental and physical. Theo loved the camaraderie, the atmosphere and the energy it brought to his life. He used baseball as a guidepost for how to be as a person; gritty, fun, relaxed and energetic. 

We are going to miss him so much. He is intertwined with our every thought. 

A private, family only service will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. and can be viewed via livestream above.

A casual, come and go Celebration of Life for Theo will be held at the 2SK Facility, 1731 Ross Ave. E, on Friday, January 27, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. where we will gather to remember Theo. Bring your glove to play catch if you’d like, and wear your favorite jersey.
