Obituary of Ricky Curtis Ponace
O’Scapio Kihiew – Helping Eagle
Ricky Curtis Ponace (O’Scapio Kihiew – Helping Eagle) of Zagime Anishinabek First Nation; born November 10, 1980, was called home to the spirit world on January 1, 2023. Ricky will be remembered for his contagiously cheerful personality, his adoration for art and music, his ability to sing and heal, and his love for his family and friends.
Ricky was predeceased by his father Rick Desjarlais; his brother Ritchie Desjarlais; sister Brooklyn Ponace; grandparents John and Alice Ponace, and Wilson and Georgina Desjarlais.
Ricky will be lovingly remembered by his mother Edith Ponace; his wife Shilo Martineau; his children Ricky Keepness, Danis Matechuck, Kaizia Ponace, Jenaya Ponace and Zoey Ponace; grandchild Ricky Keepness IV; siblings Keri Ponace (Joe), Darnell Ponace (Nic), Megan Ponace, Durayne Ponace, Marsha Lerat (Regan), Miranda Desjarlais, Rocky Desjarlais; "twinny" Clarissa Ponace; best friend William Crawford; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Ricky will be dearly missed by his family and friends. The memory of him and his life will forever be cherished and remembered.
Wake will begin at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Ave. at on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 4:30 p.m. and will continue in the Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall St. from 7:00 p.m. on through the night. Funeral service will be held in Speers Family Centre on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with a feast to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. Donations are gratefully accepted.
