Obituary of Ruth Aileen Maw

Ruth Aileen Maw (nee Payne) of Regina, SK passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at the age of 92 years following a short illness and a long struggle with dementia. Ruth was born in Pointe Anne, Ontario and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts from Queens University. She obtained a position at the Agriculture Canada Institute in Belleville where she met the love of her life, Murray. Ruth and Murray moved to Oxford England for Murray to continue his studies and while there, their first son, Eric was born. Later, they returned to Belleville where they had three more sons, and Ruth took on the demanding task of raising four boys. She was a loving and caring mother, and we could not have asked for anything more. Ruth was very generous, contributing to multiple charities and volunteering much of her time to Sunset United Church and Sunset Extendicare. She will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul by all who knew her. Ruth is survived by her brother Eric Payne; sister Katherine Ellis; and sons Eric (Diana), Peter, Tim (Martine), and Ian. She is the proud grandmother of Karen Maw and Janelle (Anthony) Charland. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband Murray; parents Hilliard and Clara Payne (nee Puffer); sister Beverly Gauthier; and brother Nathan Robert “Bob” Payne. The Maw family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to the Palliative Care Unit of Pasqua Hospital for their loving care and attention during Ruth’s final hours. A Memorial Service take place at Sunset United Church, 177 Sunset Dr, Regina, SK on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. In memory of Ruth, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1738 Quebec Ave, Unit 26, Regina, SK S7K 1V9, to the Alzheimer’s Society, 301-2550-12th Avenue, Regina, SK, S4P 3X1, to Regina Palliative Care – Hospitals of Regina Foundation, #225 - 1874 Scarth Street, Regina SK S4P 4B3, or to another charity of your choice.
