It is with broken hearts that we share the sad news that Anthony (Tony) Claude Chartier died at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina on January 28, 2023, with his family by his side. Tony will be remembered for his strength, courage, generosity, kind heart, hard work, storytelling and love and care of his family.

Tony was born on March 26, 1960, to Claude and Susan Chartier in Birtle, Manitoba, and raised in St. Lazare with his five siblings (David, Franco, Roberta, Connie and Scott). He worked for CN Rail since the age of 16, where he earned the reputation of being both hard working and dependable and remained with CN for over thirty years. During that time Tony, Sandra and family lived in numerous communities and met many wonderful people, who became lifelong friends. In the years away from work, Tony thrived, learning woodworking, turning pens and building birdhouses for family and friends. He felt privileged to spend time with, and care for, his parents in the last years of their lives and valued the time he spent with family, amassing stories and memories he cherished. Tony also had a passion for gardening and took immense pride in his garden and yard, sharing his harvest with family and neighbours.

Tony’s proudest accomplishment was his family, as he loved supporting their endeavours, most notably hockey. Tony loved watching his kids play hockey, be it a practice, game or just having fun on the backyard rinks he spent hours perfecting and maintaining. As his family grew, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, Allory, Quinn and Martin. He will be missed greatly.

Tony was predeceased by his grandparents: Isreal and Margaret Tremblay and Lionel and Rosine Chartier; parents Claude and Susan Chartier; father-in-law Kenneth Goodman; brothers-in-law David Eskdale and James Hogan; as well as numerous uncles and aunts.

Tony is survived by his wife of 41 years Sandra; son Brendan (Falynn Baptiste); daughter Brittony (Ben St. Pierre); brothers David (Cheryl), Franco (Barb) and Scott (Beckah); sisters Roberta Chartier-Hogan, Constance Tanguay (Mario); mother-in-law Beryl Goodman; sisters-in-law Goldene Mills (Eloise) and Gloria Eskdale; former brother-in-law David Mills; grandchildren Allory, Quinn and Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff of the ABCC, Dr. Amjad and RN Dayna; and Nurse Practitioner Barb and the Palliative Care Unit (3A) where Tony received wonderful care.

A celebration of life will be held Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.
