Obituary of Paul Steven Thornton

Gone, but never forgotten…

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Steven Thornton, aged 72, following a lengthy battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Dear husband, soulmate and love of her life, Paul is survived by his wife of 22 years, Judy.  He is also survived by his children Stacey and Shawna; Judy’s daughter Amanda (Danyn); his grandchildren Huxlee, Lennon, Adianna, and Rune; his sister Leslee (Tom); nephew Michael (Nicole); niece Alexandra (Ryan); mother-in-law Ann; Judy’s sisters Jean and Beverly, Aunt Reverend Ruth; Cousin Mark, who was like a brother; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.  He was predeceased by his parents Roy and Ethel; infant son; his father-in-law Carl; and Judy’s brother Jerry.

Paul will be remembered for his compassionate, caring heart, contagious laugh, and an ability to engage people with his easy-going and good-natured personality.

In mid- life, Paul decided to pursue his interest in technology.  He attended CDI College where he graduated with a CompTIA A+ Certification. This led to a successful career with SaskTel until his retirement in 2021. Paul was a driven professional with an unmatched work ethic.

Paul was also a gifted carpenter. In his spare time, he took on many home renovation projects including wrap around decks, covered patios, and fence building to name a few. He credited his father for the detailed, professional he was.  Paul had the ability to envision how a project would look before building it, Judy added the finishing touches. They worked so well together – like two peas in a pod.

Paul and Judy shared a passion for travel.  They spent several vacations exploring the Hawaiian Islands which led to his building an authentic Tiki bar in their backyard and his favourite Hawaiian shirts made regular appearances at most social gatherings.  They also loved to travel to Ontario to visit family.  One of Paul’s last wishes was to drive from Regina to Lake Huron, Ontario with their dog Bandit to spend time at his sister’s cottage.  Judy will always cherish these special adventures and all the wonderful memories they made together.

There will be a celebration of Paul’s Life in the coming months with family and close friends.

His memory will continue to beat in our hearts as we mourn his passing.

Those wishing to make a charitable donation in Paul’s memory are encouraged to support the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Special thanks go to Speers Funeral Chapel for their assistance, love, and kindness throughout this time.
