My condolences to you Marilyn and others significant in Dave's life ... I knew Dave when we both worked at the Conference Office--me as a summer student with the Caravan program where I experienced his encouraging support in many ways, and then later when I was a new ministry person up in NW SK, when he would travel long miles to offer workshops on mission to congregations such as those I was serving. A quiet and thoughtful man, committed to justice-seeking ... may he rest in peace, and may you all experience a deepening peace as you build a new relationship with him now, in spirit. Bless you.

It's a long time since we shared life at St. Andrew's College and over the years of ministry there were always times of contact such as during Dave's ministry in the Conference Office. I remember Dave as a totally sincere person, deeply committed to the gospel and its calling to give expression tot hat gospel in both individual and social aspects of our lives. He was, in my experience, a man of few words. The words he spoke were words of wisdom, kindness, caring. I think of the prophet Micah's words "What is required of us but to do justice, love kindness/mercy and walk with humility with our God." Blessings to you Marilyn and to your family. To Marilyn, Randall, Steph, Geoff, Myrna and families....my love and prayers are with you all. Steph and I had the good fortune of being PK’s...having met when Dave joined the Conference Staff in 1976. We were quietly proud of our Dad’s, even if we couldn’t quite figure out what kind of ministers they actually were!
Dave had a deep wisdom. Solid, committed to his faith, and grounded in the prairie ethos of the social gospel. I am deeply sorry to see him go. He will be greatly missed by many.

Dear Petrie Family,
I am deeply sorry for the passing of your husband, Marilyn and for the children, Randall, Geoff, Stephanie and Myrna, the loss of your dad. In honour of his memory, I am purchasing a tree to plant to symbolize his life and legacy. May this tree grow strong and tall, just like your dad's impact on me and those around him. May it serve as a reminder of his love and shared memories.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time,
Alex

I am grateful for Dave's steady presence and support in my years at St. James. He always knew what to say when I asked for advice. We had the bond of both serving in Wolseley at different points in our ministries. He will be missed. Much love to Marilyn and the family.

How many hours have I spent in the basement of the Petrie home on Krivel Crescent in Regina? I don’t know, but it’d be easier to count in days rather than hours. David and Marilyn were always welcoming, generous and tolerant of Randy and Geoff’s rowdy military buddies. And, how many weekends have I spent at the family cottage on Diefenbaker Lake? Many and I always felt appreciated and cared for. At the time, one doesn't necessarily appreciate the impact of people in our lives however in retrospect it is clear. Both David and Marilyn had a significant influence on my life by modelling love and friendship and by raising amazing children who are gentle of spirit and are lifelong friends.Mr. Petrie, David, thank you and you will be missed. Mrs. Petrie, Marilyn, thank you and you are loved. Randall, Geoff, Stephanie and Myrna, my deepest condolences.
Yours in sympathy,
Rob

Marilyn and family -
In the days and weeks that follow
Perhaps you'll often find
That even long-lost memories
Will slip into your mind,
And suddenly your loved one
Won't seem so far from you...
You'll think of touching stories,
The things you used to do,
And favorite family moments
In which you both took part --
These souvenirs of happy times
Will keep you close at heart.
I am so sorry for your loss.
