Mel was one of the good ones. It was a pleasure knowing him in university and for over 40 years in the oilpatch. Condolences to his family from Lynne, myself, and our family.

Hello Denise, Matthew, Cori, and all the extended family members and friends of Mel Chambers!
First of all, I am very sorry for your lose! However, please take comfort realizing that Mel's life was a life very well lived! Indeed, Mel is fondly remembered!
I will always remember Mel as a very young man. That is because I attended Geology classes with him decades ago! It was obvious, even back then, that Mel was ambitious and determined. However, he also had a great sense and humour, and was kind!
We all miss him!
Sincerely,
Janet Helton Johnson

so, sad to have learned of Mel's passing. Had the good fortune to have known both Mel and Sandy (who actually grew up on the same street I did though at different times). We met them at the Salmon Arm KOA way back in the day and our kids grew up together every summer camping. We would gather once or twice a year back in Calgary too.
Mel had such a wonderful sense of humor and an incredible work ethic, the farmer in him. So very happy I was in touch with late last year and caught up on many things. He will always hold a special place in my memories. RIP my friend.

Mel, was a great guy, he was hard working and smart. He made some great discoveries in Western Canada. Mel was always willing to share his knowledge, he was a great mentor and a wonderful geologist. Mel enjoyed life and was always happy and curious about things. We will dearly miss him. Mike Graham

We first knew Mel as one of Bob's younger cousins. Our first real connection was at a family reunion in Delia. Mel was offering a tour of the Handhills so we opted to take it. We were captivated by his knowledge and ability to share the history of the formation of these hills. It was a great experience and time of learning we will never forget.
In 2017 we both moved to Salmon Arm and were soon fast friends. We cherish all the times we spent visiting and getting to know and appreciate each other. Together we walked through the sad and difficult weeks of Sandy's illness and passing. Our friendship with Mel continued as he adjusted to life without Sandy. After some time we started hearing about Cori and had the privilege not too long ago of meeting her. We are truly thankful for her care of him and the happiness she brought back into his life.
Our years together were far too short but we feel blessed to have had the opportunity to know and love this knowledgeable intelligent and interesting younger cousin.
With love and sincere sympathy to the family, Bob and Darleen Steward

Denise and Matt,
We were so very sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing.
Mel was a one in a billion man; direct and passionate about all aspects of life, with strong opinions, and enjoying debate.
Conversations were illuminating, sometimes loud, but always respectful.
Generous to his neighbours and friends, and living life to the fullest.
He left this world a far better place because of his presence.
We send our deepest condolences, and look forward to seeing you in April.
Merrilee and Cliff Buss
