Obituary of Lynne Josephine Switzer-Geesen

Surrounded by the love of her family and friends, Lynne Switzer-Geesen passed away after a brief struggle with lymphoma on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the Pasqua Palliative Care Unit, Regina, SK. She was predeceased by her parents, Emma (May) and Arthur Switzer; her husband, Donald Geesen; siblings, Donald Switzer, Marie Geard and Patrick Switzer. Lynne is survived by five siblings, Les (Kit) Switzer, Dorothea (Bill) Herron, Jim Switzer, Clara (Neil) Baxter and Francis (Wendie) Switzer; three generations of nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; three sisters-in-law, three sisters-in-law, Marjorie Dreher, Dianne (Carl) Sebastian, and Betty Anne Harris; as well as three generations of Geesen nieces and nephews, and several cousins.

Lynne was born the seventh child to May and Art Switzer and raised with her eight siblings on the family farm near Wapella, SK. As a farm kid, she learned where her food came from, animal lifecycle and care, awareness of both weather and Mother Nature, a strong work ethic, the importance of honesty, communication, and a ‘waste not, want not’ attitude. She proudly attended the one-room Rosa Glen School from grades 1-7 and graduated from Wapella High School.

In 1960, Lynne excitedly moved to Regina and commenced Success Business College. Upon graduation she worked with Credit Foncier Franco-Canadian and Steelcon. In 1963 Lynne moved to a new job at the law firm of Goetz and Murphy, supporting Bernard Murphy as his legal secretary. When Bennie passed away in 1989, Lynne proudly continued her career employed at Murphy and Murphy, assisting his sons until she retired in 2001. Simply put, Lynne loved working in law and with the Murphy family.

While engaged with her work role, Lynne met and eventually married Donald (Don) Geesen. He was an engineer with IMC Canada/Mosaic and farmed land near Wilcox and Gray. They shared two residences, their winter home was Lynne’s in Regina and the summer house was Don’s on the farm near Wilcox. During their 18-year partnership they embraced each other, farm life, city life, and many travel adventures - often including extended family members.

Growing up in Saskatchewan and living all her life there, Lynne bled ‘green’. She was a  Saskatchewan Roughrider top 100 longest season ticket holder having held these tix since 1964! Lynne actively engaged in sports all her life, curling and golf were mainstays. She was a league curler at the Caledonian Club and for decades volunteered with their board as Secretary. In 2016, the Callie Club bestowed her an Honorary Roll Life Membership. She was also a long-time member of the Tor Hill Golf Club, in 2015 she was the Overall Low Net Winner. Lynne was also an active member and volunteer of the Wesley United Church.

Lynne played an important and vibrant role in the lives of both immediate and extended family, friends, and neighbors. She will be remembered for her ‘get it done’ attitude, wonderful sense of humor, keen attention to detail, love of G and T’s, puzzles, and card games. And especially for her unwavering love, humility, kindness, and generosity.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Prayer Service at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. and a Celebration of Life at Wesley United Church, 3913 Hillsdale Street, Regina, SK on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. The Celebration of Life will be livestreamed. Join us in Rider gear, Lynne’s passion. A private interment will take place at a later date.
