Norma Rodko

Obituary of Norma Rodko

Ruth “Norma” Rodko

Passed on March 19, 2023 at the age of 94 in Regina, SK.

It is with deep sorrow that Norma’s family announces the passing of their mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Ruth “Norma” Rodko.

Known by all her family as Grammy, she leaves behind daughter, Ellen (Gary); grandchildren, Hadrian (Asher) and Renee; son, Barry (Brenda); grandson Justin (Anna); great-granddaughter, Halle; daughter, Lois (Jim); grandchildren Christine (Andrew), Sarah (Dustin) and Meagan (Mike) great-grandchildren  JT and Liam.

Grammy was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB.  One of her fondest memories was performing with the Winnipeg Ballet as a child.  She later married Eugene Rodko and moved to Vancouver where she worked for BC Forest Products.  Once Eugene finished his internship, Norma and him settled in Regina where they raised their three children.

Grammys activities included Daughters of the Nile, Stitch and Bitch at Wesley United Church and the Prairie Rock and Gem Society where she made lifelong friends and memories.

Grammy loved plants and gardening, a love that was passed on from her father. She enjoyed spending hours in her yard in the summer and tending to her collection of indoor plants in the winter – she truly had a green thumb!

Summers were spent at Laclu at Kenora Ontario where her parents, aunt and uncle had cabins, Norma and Eugene eventually built their own cabin and that was Grammys favourite place to be.  We all have fond but embarrassing memories of Grammy standing on the end of the dock calling “Ellen Barry Lois” for supper – we were positive the whole lake could hear her!

Our childhood memories are always of Grammy with something in her hands; she was always knitting, crocheting, or sewing something for us or the home and later for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Norma’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Harbour Landing Village that took such good care of her and to the doctors and nurses in ICU at the Pasqua Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to The Wa Wa Shrine Patient Transportation Fund, 2065 Hamilton Street, Regina, SK S4P-2E1.

A private family celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
