KURTZ, Monica Vera

August 16, 1926 – March 28, 2023

On March 28, 2023, Monica V. Kurtz was called to be with her Lord at the age of 96 years at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, surrounded by family. Monica was born to Daphne and Edward Fortier in Belloy, Alberta on August 16, 1926. Most recently Monica lived at The Bentley Hillsdale in Regina. 

Monica is survived by nephews Robert (Joanne) Graham, Keith (Brenda) Graham, Dana Zora; nieces Linda Graham, Catherine Graham (Stephan Kalinocha) as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.  Monica was predeceased by her husband of 68 years John; son James; parents Edward and Daphne Fortier; sisters Lorraine (Jack) Graham, and Shirley Ann (Lorne) Zora; brothers-in-law Phillip (Anne) Kurtz, Joseph (Ruth) Kurtz, Nick (Ruth) Kurtz; sisters-in-law Mary (John) Nieszner, Elizabeth (John) Pugh, Caroline Kurtz, Nellie (Bernard) Jelinski; mother-in-law Katherine Meyer; father-in-law Phillip Kurtz. 

Monica became a homemaker after the birth of son James and then returned to work later in life at the Assiniboia Gallery alongside John and James. Together they were very involved in the art world and represented many up-and-coming and famous artists. Monica and John were supporters of the Regina Symphony and attended concerts at The Conexus Arts Centre for many years. Monica and John hosted many wonderful family dinners at their home and in later years at the Hotel Saskatchewan and The Diplomat Steakhouse.  

Monica was always a pleasant, gentle, positive, and generous person, and she was never one to complain despite life’s challenges.  Monica will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. 

The family would like to thank Dr. Stewart McMillan, Pasqua Hospital and The Bentley Hillsdale. 

A Celebration of Monica’s life will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 190 Massey Road, Regina SK, on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 815 Assiniboine Avenue East, Regina.  Speers Funeral and Cremation Services will be handling the funeral arrangements.
