I was very sorry to read about the passing of The Honourable Member of the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly for Regina Walsh Acres from earthly life into Jesus' eternal kingdom. My prayers are with The Honourable First Minister of His Majesty The King's Government and The Honourable Mr. Chief Justice Robert G. Richards in Right of the Courts of Saskatchewan during this sombre time.

Sending my deepest condolences to all of Derek's family and friends. I was home visiting in Saskatchewan when I heard about his passing. I watched numerous people on Global News, whether it be colleagues or friends, as they shared wonderful memories and heartwarming stories about Derek. Although it has been years since I had seen him, it is abundantly clear he was still the charismatic Derek I remember. Sending lots of love and prayers to all.

My heart felt condolences go out to all of Derek’s family, and to all of those that were fortunate enough to know him. A guaranteed smile, a glimmer in his eye, arms stretched out for a hug, a hearty laugh, a genuine engaged inquiry about how you were. Derek had a way to lighten the energy in a room, from the second he walked in. Things always got immediately better with Derek around. I am honoured to have shared so many good times… and so many laughs with him over the years as we were growing up. A damn good man, will be missed dearly. Rest easy "Francis."

We’ve known Derek for over 30 years. He was a light on a dark day and his smile, contagious. Derek genuinely cared deeply for his friends and it was easy to love him back. He will be missed forever. To know him was to love him.

Sending my thoughts and prayers to all of Derek's family. I was fortunate to have worked with Derek at Global Regina. He always had the biggest smile on his face and his laughter filled the newsroom. He was genuine, generous and a friend to all. I don't ever recall Derek having a bad day and if things did go wrong, he always found a way to laugh it off. His family and friends especially his children meant the world to him. I'm sure he is smiling, laughing, and keep everyone entertained up in heaven.

Hearing of Derek’s passing is heartbreaking. I had the honour of knowing Derek since we were teens but it had been a number of years since I ran into Derek (the last time being at a road race. I will always remember his smile and genuine heart. As I remember him I think of his cool confidence, charm, wit, and a real “matter of fact” down to earth attitude. If you knew Derek, you loved him. My heart felt condolences to all the the families and friends who knew this remarkable man. This man was one of the better souls in this world today who was passionate about anything that came his way. Iam so glad to have met Derek while we became good friends through Habanos and through Laurie who I worked with at the bar; his best friend/partner in crime ha ha. My deepest sympathy to all of Derek's family and friends. I knew Derek as I taught Teigha and Dayn when they were in grade four at St. Gabriel School. Derek was always very friendly, he had a wonderful smile, was great to talk to and it was easy to see that he cared deeply for his children. He volunteered to help out when I took Teigha 's class country skiing. He said he was a terrible skier, which he was, he did not enjoy it but he wanted to spend the time with his daughter. I hope the love and support of family, friends and the many people who thought very highly of Derek bring you some comfort.
