CROWE, Noel
With great sadness we share our Dad, Brother, Mushum and Moo Moo died peacefully on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 2:40 p.m. with his children and grandchildren by his side.
Our hearts are broken in a profound way at the loss of such a strong caring soul. Dad was a proud man who held a strong work ethic. As a young man he left Piapot First Nation to find employment, and in that time a pass was still required to leave the Nation. He worked for the City of Regina for many years and after retiring in the early 1990’s he routinely spoke of “the city guys”.
He blessed us with his humour and even at difficult moments, Dad always knew how to say the funniest and sometimes colourful things. His friends and family knew him as “Bossy Crowe”, a nickname he earned as a child because he liked to be the boss of his younger brothers and sisters.
Dad was taken to Lebret Residential school in 1937 at the age of four years old. He rarely spoke of that time, except about the deep loneliness he felt as a child. He ran away from Lebret when he was 9 years old, to be with his mom on Pasqua First Nation. Although he may not have known or intended to do so, Dad taught us how to survive colonialism with dignity, to be kind to other people, and to not carry the hard things in life. While he valued being good to others, he would also say, “If you’re going to be a good feller to me, I will be one to you, but if you’re going to be ornery you will get it back too”. We are lightened in our grief knowing we knew him well, and to be blessed with many rich memories. We are so deeply proud of who he was as a man.
Dad was predeceased by his wife Norma Crowe; his beloved life partner Kathy Keewatin; parents Noel and Seraphine Crowe; brothers Russell Crowe, Leslie Crowe, Ivan Crowe and Pat (Rena) Crowe; sister Stella Crowe; sons Steven Crowe and Norman Crowe; and daughters Margaret Foley and Erma Ironchild.
He leaves his strength, love, and memories with his sister Erma Crowe; sons Raymond Crowe, Delbert Crowe, Gerry Crowe (Barb), Barry Robertson, Rodney Keewatin; daughters Kathy Crowe, Rhonda Landry, Wendy Taypotat and Noela Crowe-Salazar; as well as numerous grandchildren and great children, whom he loved dearly.
We will hold you in our hearts forever Dad.
Thank you. Hiy hiy.
We would like to offer our gratitude to the staff and residents at Parkside Extendicare where Dad lived for the past 5 years.
A Funeral Service in his honour will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK with Chief Cadmus Delorme officiating. A private graveside service will occur at a later date.
