Olive Evans

Obituary of Olive Hazel Evans

EVANS, Olive H.

SEPTEMBER 29, 1919 – APRIL 4, 2023

Olive (Elliott) Evans passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the age of 103 years.

Olive was the middle of three daughters born to Austin and Jessie Elliott and grew up on the family farm near Aylesbury, Saskatchewan. After graduating from school in Aylesbury, Olive attended Moose Jaw Teacher’s College where she took primary education classes supplemented by summer classes at University in Saskatoon. Her first teaching position was in the Edwards School District near Dilke.

While teaching in the Edwards district Olive met Pryse Evans, they were married in 1945 and began their life together farming and raising four children.

Olive was predeceased by her husband in 1996; and by her sister Lavina Windh, in 2018.

She is lovingly remembered by her sister Elva McDougall; her children Arlene (Don) Hepburn, Lynette, Errol (Brenda), and Gloria; grandsons Jarret (Selina) and Scott; great grandsons Jessie, Austin and Dexter, as well as nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Olive was beloved by all who knew her and will be remembered for her smile, her kind heart, and her yellow Burrowing Owl hat! She was proud of her children, grandsons, and great grandsons.

Mom enjoyed her many friends whether it be singing with the Bethune United Church choir or visiting over coffee and a cookie.  She took a keen interest in sports, particularly the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and attended games until age 91.

Mom kept journals before journalling became the `thing to do’, her notes from the past reveal she was constantly busy: gardening and making preserves, sewing, tending to ailing kittens or calves that needed TLC, taking meals out to the field, and reading when time permitted. We will cherish her journals that detail milestones and memories.

The family would like to express their gratitude toward the staff at Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home for the care, compassion and friendship extended to Mom while residing there.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK.
