HUTCHISON, Dr. Patricia Anne “Pat”

DECEMBER 27, 1930 – APRIL 10, 2023

Dr. Pat Hutchison died on April 10, 2023, at the age of 92 years.

An only child, she was predeceased by her parents Les and Marguerite (McGahey) Hutchison.

She is survived by numerous cousins and friends.

Pat was born in Regina at the Regina Grey Nuns (now Pasqua) Hospital in 1930. She received her primary and secondary education in Regina. In 1948 she began attending Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario where she graduated in 1954 with a degree of MD CM. The next five years were spent in attaining her speciality in Paediatrics from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She practiced Paediatrics in Winnipeg from 1959-1962. In late 1962 she joined the Regina Health Department as Paediatrician involved with the paediatric and public health programs. She became Assistant Medical Health Officer in 1972 and Medical Health Officer for the City of Regina in 1983. Pat was the first woman to be appointed Medical Health Officer for the City. She held the position until 1992 when she decided to retire.

Over the years Pat served on many committees and executives of boards related to public health matters and/or paediatrics. She was elected President of the Saskatchewan Public Health Association in 1986. She received the Soroptimist International Women of Distinction Award (Health) in 1988 and the City of Regina Mayor’s award for Human Services in 2001.

After retirement, Pat continued to serve as a volunteer on two paediatric-related boards, that of SCEP Centre Early Intervention and Training Services and the board of MacKenzie Infant Care Centre. She also engaged in informal volunteering and served on several retirement - related boards and committees. Pat enjoyed very much the many interesting classes offered at the Seniors Education Centre and enjoyed travelling and gardening until arthritis limited those activities. She was an enthusiastic bridge player. She belonged to the Canadian Federation of University Women, the Regina Symphony Women’s Association, and the Canadian Club of Regina. Pat was very fond of animals and enjoyed the companionship of several cats over the years.

Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday April 20, at 10:00 a.m. with reception to follow in the Speers Family Centre.

Interment following the reception at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 815 Assiniboine Avenue East, Regina, Sk.
