With great sadness we wish to announce the passing of Eleanor Kathleen Matz (nee Fuchs), on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the age of 77 years.  Eleanor passed away with her family by her side. 

She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Rosemarie Fuchs; Larry’s parents Peter and Della Matz; niece Brenda Matz, and nephew Kevin Stock and son in-law Michael Thom.  Eleanor was survived by her husband of 56 years Larry; daughters Laura, Carla (husband Trevor, daughter Olivia), Katrina (husband Dwight); and son Joseph (wife Kyla, children Hannah and Emmett); her extended family, Adrian (Agnes) Fuchs, Don Fuchs, Caroline (Ken) Sharp, Joan Zylak, Lucille (Gary) Verrett, Gloria (Alf) Petersen, Rita (Don) Saddler, Ralph (Jackie) Matz, Allan (Johanna) Matz; and many special nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and special friends.

Eleanor grew up with her family in Wilcox and Regina, where she attended Holy Rosary and Sacred Heart Academy schools. Upon finishing high school, Eleanor achieved her Teaching certificate.  She married Larry in 1966, and they started their life together in Saskatoon.  After starting their family of four children, Eleanor and Larry moved back to Regina in 1975.  Eleanor later went on to achieve her bachelor’s degree in education at age 40 and inspired many students including her children.

The following years included happy times travelling with family to North Dakota, Minnesota, Eastern and Western Canada and most specially, time at the cottage at Regina Beach.  Trips to Mazatlán Mexico, were thoroughly enjoyed, where they met up with friends from Regina and new friends from the United States.

Eleanor’s greatest joy was her family and celebrated with them every time they met.

Eleanor:

Wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, teacher, student, friend.

Bright, talented, motivated, creative, kind, generous, faithful, patient, tolerant, grateful, special, inspiring.

You are well loved.

Funeral Mass for Eleanor will be held on Monday April 24, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 5020 Sherwood Drive, Regina, SK.  Reception to follow. Interment at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 815 Assiniboine Avenue East, Regina, SK. 

The family of Eleanor Matz would like to thank the staff on Unit 3E and support staff at the Regina General Hospital.  We have appreciated the kindness and compassion that was shown to us and our mom Eleanor.
