Obituary of John Donald Cavers

CAVERS, John Donald “Jack”

1930 - 2023

It is with deep sorrow we announce the sudden passing of John “Jack” Donald Cavers on Thursday, June 1st, 2023. Dad passed away with family by his side at the age of 93. He is survived by his four children, Scott (Stephanie) Cavers, B.J. (Heather) Cavers, Rogene (Jim) Klein and Janelle Cavers; his eight grandchildren, Chad (Donna), Ryan (Christie), Jeff (Tammy), Josh, Jana, Lindsay (Bill), Josh (Jenna) and Michaela; as well as 10 great grandchildren. Jack was predeceased by the love of his life Marcille, and the two were married for 63 years until her passing in 2013; his parents Abner and Jenny Cavers; and his two beloved grandchildren Ramie Lousa (Klein) and Cory Springer.

Jack was born in Regina, SK. on March 1st, 1930. He attended Regina Central Collegiate where he met his soulmate Marcille. They would go on to get married in 1950 and have four children. Dad worked at Intercontinental Packers for 30 years, from the cutting floor to plant manager. His next journey was starting his own successful business, A-Way Travel Services, for another 30 years until he retired at the age of 79 years old. Through those 30 years, Dad and Mom travelled extensively and often. They were able to travel to 6 out of the 7 continents and they were each other’s best travel companions.

Dad was deeply involved in our community over the years where he met many of his true and lifelong friends. Dad was a member of the Regina Eastview Rotary as well as the Regina Executive club. To date Dad was the longest standing member (Senator) of the Regina Executive Club and always had a great time with the “lads”! Over the past 15 years dad was actively involved with the Regina Alzheimer’s Society and was often called upon to support others. He loved sports, from playing curling and golf, to attending his kids, grandkids and great-grandkid’s games and recitals. Dad was an avid supporter of the Regina Pats, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and the Toronto Blue Jays. He was the longest season ticket holder with the Regina Pats, attending games for the past 70 years. Dad was to attend his next Blue Jay games in Toronto this coming September.

For the past 10 years dad resided at the Queen Victoria Estates. The family would like to thank the management, staff, and residents for all their friendships, love, and support over the years.

Out of all of Dad’s many accomplishments he was most proud of his family. One of the greatest gifts that Dad (Bumpa) gave us was his vast wisdom. He had a story for every occasion, teaching us valuable life lessons through his own experiences. Whether it was a tale from his youth or a piece of advice on navigating adulthood, he always had the perfect words to guide us. Dad (Bumpa) was the light of our lives, and his absence leaves a void that will never be filled. Dad, we all know that you and mom are dancing and continuing to watch over all of us.

As per dad’s request there will be no Funeral Service. A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of cards or flowers please consider donating to the Regina Alzheimer’s Society, #301 – 2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK. S4P 3X1.
