Obituary of Mark Irvin Langgard

LANGGARD, Mark Irvin

1960 – 2023

Peacefully, and in the company of his three brothers and good friend Barb, Mark Irvin Langgard passed away on the afternoon of Monday, June 19, 2023, at the Pasqua Hospital.

Born February 5, 1960, at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Regina, Mark was the fifth and last child of Irvin Engebret and Ida Kristine (Overby) Langgard. Except for a brief time at the University of Saskatchewan, in Saskatoon, Mark lived his entire life in Regina.  He graduated from the University of Regina, Bachelor of Science, Engineering Program in 1985 and shortly after began a career that spanned over thirty years with the CBC, retiring in February 2020. His enjoyment of retirement was brief when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer last summer. Quiet and unassuming, Mark loved electronics, motorcycles, music, and cooking, especially Asian foods with lots of spice! He also made delicious German cabbage rolls, a welcome addition to family suppers.

Mark is survived by his three brothers (all in Regina) and their families; Murray and daughters Carrie (Michael and children Grace and Thomas) of Denver, Colorado, and Kelly (children Neko and Halden) of Toronto; Larry (Lynn Eriksson) and daughter Angela Reed (Elijah and children Kristina, Veronica, and Sean); Randy (Donna Magnusson) and children, Andrew, and Ariel. Also missing Mark will be his much loved companion, Treble, his beautiful cat. It was a great relief to him that his niece Carrie adopted Treble and took her home to Denver.

Mark was predeceased by his father Irvin (1920-2003); his mother Ida (Tootsie) (1920-2006); sister Maureen (1958-1959); sister-in-law Kathy (2011); and numerous aunts and uncles.

As per his wishes, a private family service will be held. Interment of his ashes next to his parents in the Lunner Lutheran Cemetery, North of Southey is planned for a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, the home care staff whose visits allowed Mark to remain at home for as long as possible, the kind and caring staff of 3B at the Pasqua Hospital, including the MAID Program, and his good friend Barb Melnick, all of whom worked with his brothers to support and care for him.

Flowers are gratefully declined but donations to charities and organizations Mark supported would be appreciated, including the Regina Cat Rescue, Regina Humane Society, the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, and organizations that care for the less fortunate in our community, or any other worthy recipient.
