WERRY, Doreen
1932 – 2023
Doreen Werry passed away peacefully in Regina, SK on Friday, June 23, 2023, at the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon; son Darryl; sister Nellie; and brothers Gerald and Lawrence. Doreen leaves to mourn, her son Byron (Fran); grandson Nolan; daughter Linda (Barry); grandchildren Kai, Teagan, Kaden, and Korey; as well as many friends and extended family across the country.
Doreen was born in Cabri, Saskatchewan on May 29, 1932. She spent her childhood on the family farm in southwest Saskatchewan. Doreen left the farm to pursue nursing training at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital and the University of Saskatchewan. On becoming a registered nurse her early career was spent working as an operating room nurse. She met her husband Gordon, an RCMP officer while working in Moose Jaw, where they were married in 1958. Doreen stepped away from nursing to raise her family and to adapt to the itinerant life of an RCMP family. She returned to nursing as the director of care at a private nursing home, eventually becoming the manager of several care homes in south Regina. In retirement, Doreen spent time at the family cabin at Anglin Lake, while remaining active in the community as a board member with Mutchmore Lodge, on the executive of Sunset United Church and working with the local RCMP Veterans’ Association.
Doreen earned a professional reputation as a caring, hardworking, and skilled health care professional. She made friends wherever she went. The personal qualities that allowed her to be successful in her work were also what made her an excellent friend. She loved nothing better than spending time surrounded by family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Doreen's Life will take place at Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be with husband Gordon at the RCMP Cemetery in Regina.
