It is with heavy hearts that the family of William Welykholowa announces his peaceful passing on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the age of 95. He was predeceased  by his wife of 68 years Anne; parents Wasyl and Annie Welykholowa; Brother Arthur Welykholowa; in-laws Karnoli and Martha Koroluk; brothers-in-law John (Pauline) Koroluk and Metro Koroluk; niece Helen Koroluk and nephew Jeffery Koroluk. He is survived by his son Brian Delphine) Welykholowa; daughter Lori (Duane) Lavoy; 5 grandchildren: Kevin Welykholowa (Marnie); Kelsey (John) Stene, Kyle Welykholowa, Landon Lavoy and Kegan Lavoy. 6 great grandchildren: Halle, Gavin, Lily, Oskar, Isabelle and Topenga; Brother John (Mary) Welykholowa, sister Liz (Garth) Shafer and sister-in-law Winnie Koroluk and numerous nieces and nephews.  

William was born in Veregin, Saskatchewan. He attended school in Veregin and Kamsack. After graduating from grade twelve he went on to Queen’s University, taking Engineering and playing hockey for the University team. After some tough times and being homesick he returned to Saskatchewan and enrolled in Pharmacy at the University of Saskatchewan. He also played hockey for the University team in Saskatoon. He graduated from Pharmacy in 1950 and received a major athletic award. He was also very proud of being the second registered Pharmacist is Saskatchewan. After graduation he moved to Regina and began working at the General Hospital. On July 4th 1952 William married his sweetheart Anne Koroluk. A few years later they built their own drugstore – William’s Drugs on College Ave. They both worked there for 41 years until their retirement in 1997.

William was a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Men’s Association. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, tending to his prized raspberries and curling in the senior’s league until he was 89.
William enjoyed many summers at their cabin at Madge Lake and enjoyed watching his grandchildren Ukrainian dance and perform at Mosaic and Crystal Lake Ukrainian camp.

The family would like to thank the many individuals who helped make the last days of his journey comfortable. A public viewing will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, Friday, July 21, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Descent of the Holy Spirit Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
