I met Gerald in 1976 but didn't get to know him until around 1986 when we worked together for Yingst Farms. For many years, we worked and socialized and even when I moved away, we talked every week until the passing of Mavis.
To Gerald, family was everything and I was fortunate to be included in many family gatherings.
We shared many laughs and I have many wonderful memories of my friend.
God bless you all during this difficult time and may your memories of Gerald comfort you.

We first met Gerald and Mavis when we moved into Cornerstone Heights in 2015. Gerald made a point of meeting all of the new residents and soon came over to introduce himself. We had many visits with both of them until Mavis went into care. We didn’t see much of him after that, but he would stop by occasionally for a visit. Gerald was our Leader Post delivery guy when he lived in our building. We could always count on our paper being outside our door in the morning! He had a good heart and would do anything for anyone. Our condolences to his family.

Memory of Gerald Yingst
We have only known Gerald since 2016 when we moved into our Townhouse on Trinity Way. At that time Gerald and Mavis lived in the Cornerstone building behind us. As avid walkers we would head out every morning and it was not long until Gerald noticed us and wanted to walk regularly with us. He wanted to walk a bit earlier in the morning so did so with some other buddies. Every now and then we would wait a bit and walk with us. It was not too long before he was our “walking buddy”. Gerald when he was at Cornerstone was the Fountain manager. He keep the fountain operating regularly and would often be seen sitting out there have a beverage or two with his friend. He meet people easly.
We were very impressed with the amount of time Gerald spent caring for Mavis as she was not too mobile then. He often looked for outings that he knew she would enjoy and drove her to them. We had them over a couple of times during some of our condo celebrations. When Mavis was transferred to Parkside Place for further care following her discharge from hospital, Gerald would go and see her often and regularly. Gerald was always meeting and greeting folks when walking and at the care facility.
Gerald would come over in the morning for his decaffeinated coffee and conversation. He was always happy and had some great stories to tell. It is good times indeed. When Gerald moved to different living accommodation following Mavis passing, I would sometimes head over there for conversation and sometimes to help him manage all the new technology he had and was trying to get it to work.
Gerald loved to travel locally and abroad. Often, we would hear the doorbell ring and be greeted by him bearing treats of chocolates, sausage meats and other baked goods. I think he was trying to fatten us up. We are surely going to miss Gerald. His time in hospital this time was too much and it is so sad that he did not make it out of there safely. We will miss his friendly manner and the ways he was always looking out for others. He would give you the shirt off his back
It is with sadness that we are saying goodbye to you Gerald and it was so great to know you. Your presence will be greatly missed. So long BUDDY
