Walter, late of Fort Qu’Appelle,SK passed away on July 26, 2023 with his loving wife, Josephine by his side. Walter was born on November 13, 1929, shortly after his father John had immigrated to Canada. John had settled in Virden, MB where he worked for different farmers, saving his hard earned money to bring the rest of his family to Canada to start a new life. In 1938 the family was reunited with John once again when Walter was brought over to Canada along with his mother and two sisters. He helped his father on the farm and attended Hillside School near Virden. Walter found school very difficult but through hard work and perseverance he managed to overcome the challenges that came with learning the English language. In 1954 Walter married Josephine Pietrucha and farmed in the West Bend, Saskatchewan district. In the early 1970s they moved to Regina, SK where he worked for Wascana Parks until he retired. Walter and Josephine then moved to Fort Qu’Appelle in 2018. Throughout the years Walter enjoyed his hobby of raising various fancy and Racing Homer pigeons. He strived to keep the best birds possible and has won numerous ribbons and trophies at various pigeon shows. This was a great payoff for all his hard work and dedication. Walter was always a hard worker, respected by his friends and neighbours, and went out of his way to help when asked. He is survived by his wife, Josephine; daughters Bonnie Harvey (Ron Cockwill) of Fort Qu’Appelle, SK and Teresa (Theo) Dooremalen of Qu’Appelle, SK; grandchildren Shawn Harvey of BC, Shannon (Daniel) Benoit of Regina, SK, Andrew (Ashley) Dooremalen of Vibank, SK, Steven (Leah) Dooremalen of Lacombe, AB, and Kristen (Jonny) Bangsund of Stewiake, NS; great-grandchildren Xavier and Hazel Dooremalen and Zelda and Nate Bangsund.
