Obituary of June Ellen Shiplett

JUNE ELLEN SHIPLETT June passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2014 at Lumsden and District Heritage Home with her husband Gordon and daughter Donna at her side. She was born June 1, 1931 at Dodsland, SK and was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Kathleen Scott and one son, Rev. Jeffrey Shiplett. June is survived by her husband of 65 years, Gordon; children, Cheryl (Harvey), Donna, Robert (Deborah), daughter-in-law Ella, Mary-Ellen, William (Iona), Kathleen and Michael (Treena); twelve grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. With eight children in the first 15 years, June was a busy homemaker. The sewing machine was often busy, as the children at holiday time would be clothed with shorts, blouses and shirts all cut from the same bolt of material. There was also a dog Velvet, then Desiree, a budgie Peter and then a singing canary chosen by June to complete her home family. Favorite meals included macaroni and cheese, meatloaf, scalloped potatoes and carrot salad. Pies, cookies and squares could be counted on at noon or after school, even on the coldest day. In the years at Lumsden Heritage June’s fine singing voice was heard especially when a friend would play the piano. A voice well-tuned from singing to those babies on whom she showered so much love. The family would like to express their heart-felt thanks to the staff at Lumsden Heritage for the excellent meals, superb laundry and the tender loving personal care received. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Regina Beach Memorial Hall, 101 Centre Street, Regina Beach, SK on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Marjorie Kent Officiating.
