Obituary of Fred Hughes

FREDERICK P. HUGHES Frederick, loving husband, dad, granddad, great-granddad and friend, passed away at the age of 89 on Tuesday, August 5, 2014. He was a local businessman who operated Fred’s Esso on Albert and 9th Avenue North for 25 years. Fred then went on to own and operate Crystal Ice and Water for nine years. He was community minded, and generous with his time and finances. Fred was a long time member of the Regina Cosmopolitan Club. He was one of the founding members of the Cosmopolitan Foundation Canada, Inc., which today continues to fund diabetes research in Canada. Fred was also a member of the Legion and a WWII veteran. He found enjoyment in golfing, curling, cards and dancing, particularly the polka, attending many polka fests across southern Saskatchewan. Fred and his sweetheart Beatrice delighted in traveling throughout North America, New Zealand, Australia, and Europe. They wintered in Mesa, Arizona for 37 years, enjoying the lifestyle, and making many friends along the way. He was predeceased by his son Daryl and brothers, John Hughes and Ernest Armstrong. Fred leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Beatrice; children, Dianne (Marshall) Diggle, Darlene (Clayton) Panchuk, Stacy (Rita) and James (Cynthia); daughter in-law Donna-Lynne Hughes; thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Broadway United Church, 105 Broadway Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Fred, may be made to the Cosmopolitan Foundation Canada Inc., P.O.
