Obituary of Irene Evelyn Halter

IRENE EVELYN HALTER (née Weist) It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Irene on Sunday, August 24, 2014. Left to cherish Irene’s memory are her daughter Donna (Jon) Wyatt, granddaughter, Kelly (Peter) Scherr and great-grandsons, Patrick and Daniel and grandson Wade (Bronwyn); daughter Kathy Medwid, grandchildren, Shawn and Michelle and great-grandchildren, Morgan and Kaitlyn. Irene was predeceased by her husband Phil in 2010; parents, Pius Weist and Elizabeth Wagner Weist; sister Elma; brother-in-law Henry Posyniak; brother Frank; sister-in-law Edie; and son-in-law Michael Medwid in 2009. Irene was born on July 3, 1922 in St. Joseph Colony, Balgonie, SK. She grew up in several small communities around Saskatchewan and eventually moved with her family to reside in Regina. At this time, Irene began to work at Sears and married Phil Halter on July 1, 1942. During her life, Irene treasured her family and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Irene enjoyed her home and yard and together with her husband Phil, lovingly planted a large garden and a multitude of flowers each spring. Irene pursued many hobbies such as reading, word puzzles, knitting, crocheting and needlework. She was a talented seamstress and spent countless hours sewing clothes for her daughters and herself. Irene was an active member of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, serving in a wide variety of parish ministries. In their retirement years, the couple enjoyed yearly winter vacations and holidays abroad. Irene has left her family with beautiful memories and will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank the staff and residents at Queen Victoria Estates where Irene lived the last years of her life. At Irene’s request, there will be no memorial service and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Flowers graciously declined.
