Obituary of Grace Baldwin

GRACE BALDWIN (née Sheppard) Grace passed away peacefully on Monday, September 1, 2014. She was predeceased by her parents, Emma (née Goodfellow) and Armen Sheppard and her husband, the Rev. Donald Baldwin. Grace leaves to mourn her brother John (Laura) Sheppard. She was born in Southey, SK on April 3, 1928 and spent her early years on a farm in the Gregherd District. When her father passed away in 1933, Grace moved to Regina with her mother and brother. After high school, she trained as a nurse at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC. During the polio epidemic in the 1950’s, Grace worked with a team of nurses who earned commendation for their work with iron lungs. In the early 1960’s she moved to Jersey City, New Jersey, where she worked as an obstetrics nurse and eventually became Director of Nursing at Jersey City General Hospital. In 1991 Grace married the Rev. Donald Baldwin, rector of Calvary Episcopal Church of Bayonne, NJ. She continued to enjoy music and sing in the choir as she had done for many years. Two years after Donald’s death, in 1995, Grace returned to Regina where her brother John still lives. The family very much appreciates the kind, attentive care Grace received at ParkView Villa and Santa Maria Senior Citizen’s Home. Special thanks to Dr. Mbanza and friend, Pat MacGillivray. A private graveside service will be held for Grace at a later time where she will be laid to rest with her parents in Southey Sk.
