Obituary of Walter Protz

WALTER PROTZ Walter passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the age of 88 years. Predeceased by his parents Wasyl and Marie Protz; loving wife Joyce, August 2014; two brothers and two sisters, Walter is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his children, Maryanne and Rob (Arlene); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Walter grew up on a farm in Broad Valley, MB and went to Boys School in Teulon, MB. After graduating from the University of Manitoba, the year of ‘The Great Flood’, Walter did some prospecting work in Northern Saskatchewan. He worked at the Co-op Refinery for thirty-seven years as the Chief Chemist. Walter sang in the Westminster Choir, and met the love of his live, Joyce, while skating. He was the President of the Regina Ski Club in the Tor Hill Days, Scout leader, hockey coach, and drove for dozens of bottle drives for the Lions Band. Walter received a Fellowship award from Chemical Institute of Canada. He enjoyed skiing, dancing, swimming, gardening and could fix almost anything. The Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 10:00 am. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Walter, may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan Inc., 301 – 2550 – 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1.
