Obituary of Jamesina Giralda Lydia Jamieson

JAMESINA JAMIESON 1933 – 2014 Jamesina Giralda Lydia Jamieson, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the age of 81 years. Predeceased by her parents James H. Jamieson and Eileen H.D. Jenkins Jamieson; brother Basil A. S. Jamieson; aunts, Lydia and Carrie Jamieson; uncle Arthur W. Jamieson, all late of Lumsden, SK; aunt Una Jenkins Robertson, late of BC; uncle Harry P.B. Jenkins, late of Arkansas, she is survived by brother Bruce W.H. Jamieson of Regina; two first cousins and their families in the U.S.A. and four 2nd cousins, one in ON, three in BC and their families. Jamesina graduated from the College of Law in Saskatoon in 1958 and articled with the pioneer Regina law firm of Thom, Bastedo. She then opened a practise in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan and practised there for 4 years; then moved to take over a practise in Indian Head. In 1967 she sold that practise and moved to Regina to become the Official Guardian of Infants for the Province, a branch of the then Attorney General’s Department. After 15 years in that position she was granted a sabbatical leave to attend the University of Ottawa to obtain a Masters degree in Law (Legislation) and shortly after her return from Ottawa she moved into the Legislative Services Branch of what was by that time renamed as the Provincial Department of Justice. Later she was seconded to the position of Executive Assistant to the Chief Justice of Queen’s Bench, a new position created by the Chief Justice, Mary Batten, upon the sudden expansion of the court by the amalgamation of the District Court and Queen’s Bench Court. She served under two Chief Justices; then in November of 1990 she was seconded again to a position in the then Corporations Department to work on a special legislative project. She retired from that position in April 1991 and lived in Regina. Funeral Service will be held at Knox-Metropolitan United Church, 2340 Victoria Avenue, Regina on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Lumsden Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined.
