Obituary of Katie Lawrek

Katie Lawrek (nee Bula) March 9, 1920-December 19, 2014 It is with great sadness that the family of Katie Lawrek announces her sudden, but, peaceful passing on Friday, December 19, 2014 at the age of 94 years. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Philip and Sophie Bula, her husband of fifty-one years, Peter, in 1991, two sisters, Pauline in infancy and Mary, two brothers, Philip in infancy and John, two grandsons, Robert and Shane, and her son-in-law, Harvey Janz, in 1987. Katie is survived by her loving family, Sophie Janz, Jo Urquhart, Emily Fox, Pat (Jim) Stoffel, Elaine (Mel) Schwartz and Peter (Melodie) Lawrek. She was very involved in the activities of her twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, Bonnie Jo (Greg) and children (Tyler, Kyle, Courtney), Stuart (Kim) and children (Hailey and Teague); Rick, Tammy and her daughter (Kylie); Shannon (Marc) and children (Spencer and Arden), Derek and Holden; Candace (Jon), Corey (Courtney) and children (Addlie and Bentley); Crystal (Darrell) and children (Eric and Joel), Samantha (Murray) and children (Ava, Ella and Mila) and Brent and children (Presley and Jackson). Mom is also survived by her sister Anne (Ernest) Klaus, brothers and sisters-in laws, nieces and nephews and special friends. Mom was an incredible lady. She was Dad’s “right-hand man” on the farm, had a green-thumb (she loved her flowers and took pride in growing tomatoes and cucumbers in her condo garden plot), was an amazing cook (made her last batch of perogies just days prior to her passing) and many other talents. Mom enjoyed her needle-point, which she proudly displayed in her home, the countless puzzles she set, and she very rarely missed doing her daily crossword puzzles. Mom was a person of deep faith. A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, December 26, 2014 at 7:00 pm at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 11:00 am at Resurrection Roman Catholic Parish, 3155 Windsor Park Road, Regina with Father Stephen Bill presiding. Interment will take place at Riverside Memorial Park. Mom, we will miss you! Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made in memory of Katie to the Resurrection Roman Catholic Parish Building Fund or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8.
