Obituary of Vera Margaret Colquhoun

VERA MARGARET COLQUHOUN October 3, 1913 - December 21, 2014 Vera was born in Nokomis, SK on October 3, 1913, the eldest child of Norman and Violet Morris. She met Adam Colquhoun at Normal School in Regina and they were married March 16, 1933. After teaching for a short time in Prelate, SK they moved back to Nokomis where a daughter, Donna and a son Alan were born. The family moved to Indian Head, SK in 1943 where Vera was a devoted mother and taught piano lessons. The family moved again, to Regina in 1953. Mom did some substitute teaching for the Regina School Board. She was active in Westminster United Church, sang in the church choir and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society. Mom loved to sing, paint, enjoyed gardening and was a beautiful seamstress, sewing many of her children’s, grandchildren’s and friends clothes, as well as her own outfits. She volunteered at the Red Cross sharing her sewing and knitting talents. Mom enjoyed her travels – cruises to Hawaii, Alaska and a visit to Scotland. She played a large part in the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her graciousness and compassion influenced all of them. Mom completed her life’s journey on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Extendicare Elmview, where she resided for the past three years. She was predeceased by her husband Adam in 1995, and her siblings, Carman, Olive and Alan. Vera is survived by a daughter, Donna (Brian) Harvey of Regina and their three children, Todd (Loretta), Lynne (Lane) and Dawn (Michael) and a son Alan (Phyllis) Colquhoun and their three children, Jeff, Michael and Leanne (Michael), all of Saskatoon, ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. The following tribute to Mom was written by great granddaughter, Rachel: Tribute Today one of the most extraordinary women to have ever lived passed into Heaven. My great-nana, Vera Colquhoun, spent 101 years on earth and will be spending eternity with the Lord. “Grape” Nana is the classiest, funniest, wittiest, most graceful, most loving lady I’ve ever known. That grace and love will be missed but it is by no means gone. She will live on in Heaven. A Memorial Service to Celebrate Vera’s Life will be held in the spring when a tree will be planted in her memory. Her grace and love will continue to add beauty to the world for years and years to come. Rest in peace, Nana Vera. You will always be loved and will always be missed. I’ll miss holding your hand and laughing at your jokes. I love you. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Elmview for the loving care and compassion shown to Mom and her family, also to Pat MacGillivray, Elaine Glass and Kimberly MacDonald for all your “extra touches” above and beyond the expected. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to Elmview Resident & Family Support Group Inc., 2122 Wascana Greens, Regina, SK S4V 2K9.
