Obituary of Norman Harold Ast

NORMAN AST 1921 – 2015 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Norman Ast, most recently of College Park II Retirement Residence, Regina, and former long-time resident of Emerald Park, SK. Dad completed his life long journey on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 93 years of age. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Edythe; son Larry (Delee) Ast of Emerald Park; daughter Carol (Ken) Meyer of Regina and daughter Florence (Richard) Coffey of Regina; grandchildren, Chris (Wendy Byrnes) Coffey, Dana (Dan) Coffey, Steven (Kristen) Meyer, Aaron Meyer, Sara (Chris Gieni) Coffey, Evan Coffey, Jennifer (Bob Spicer) Ast and Taylor Ast; eight great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Dad was the youngest of nine children born to Frank and Caroline (Hammann) Ast on June 6, 1921 in Regina, SK, where he spent his first 67 years of life. During this time he took great pride in both his professional and personal accomplishments and with the many special friendships he acquired along the way. This included the 3 years he served in the army during World War II and the 40 plus years working in the automotive retail sector. Shortly after retiring dad and mom relocated to Emerald Park, SK, easily settling into small town living and naturally embracing the country lifestyle. Dad never met a stranger he couldn’t befriend, he never lost his sense of humor and a chance encounter was his invitation for conversation, if he thought you might be interested. Dad lived a full and rewarding life and will be remembered. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Doctors and staff at the Regina General Hospital – 5E Wing for the care and compassion shown to dad and his family. At Dad’s request a private family service and interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Dad’s memory be made to the charity of your choice.
