Obituary of Leona Rosa Joyce Gettle

LEONA ROSA GETTLE March 7, 1937 – January 8, 2015 It is with great sadness that the family of Leona Rosa Gettle announces her peaceful passing, in her sleep, on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the age of 77 years in Regina. Leona was predeceased by parents Ruby and Edward Wahpooseyan; her son Blaine Gettle and daughter Angela Gettle. She is survived by her husband Alfred Gettle; three sons Darwin, Ronald and Jeffrey (Laurel); grandchildren Christopher, Leah, Lana, Ronnie Jr, Dustin, Madeline and Carey; sisters Hazel Wahpooseyan, Viola Gordon, Janet Dufour, Selina Brittain (all of Regina), Vera Wahpooseyan (Moose Jaw) and brother Roy Wahpooseyan (Regina); four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Leona was born and raised on the Sakimay First Nation. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids, as well as going to church with great fondness until the very end. Leona enjoyed working as a long term care provider and took pride in her career while working at Parkside Nursing Home in Regina. She will always be remembered as the most caring, giving and thoughtful person that she was. Leona especially enjoyed her shopping and many opportunities to provide for her family and friends. Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK, on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior. Interment to follow in Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, those so wishing, may make a donation in Leona’s memory to the Canadian Diabetes Society, 917 Albert Street, Regina, SK, S4R 2P6.
