Obituary of Mona Inez Dahlstrom

MONA DAHLSTROM Mona Dahlstrom (nee Knox) late of Regina, SK, passed away after a short illness on January 18, 2015. Predeceased by her parents Inez and Harry Knox, Mona is survived by her loving husband of sixty-five years, Barclay (Bud); her sister Margaret Brown of Regina; daughter Rhonda (Reg) Watson of Regina; son Dean (Colleen) Dahlstrom of Regina; grandchildren, Jennifer (Ryan) Lawrence of Moose Jaw, Graeme and Sean Watson, Barclay (Laura) Dahlstrom and Kylie Dahlstrom, all of Regina; and one great-grandchild Lincoln Lawrence, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mona’s early life was spent in Limerick, Saskatchewan, a town that she held in high regard and returned to throughout her life. It was there that she met her high school sweetheart, Barclay (Bud) Dahlstrom. In September of 1950, after a five year courtship, Mona and Bud were married. Bud finished his Engineering degree at the University of Saskatchewan and following his graduation, the newly weds moved to Montreal. Their time in Montreal was an adventure that they greatly enjoyed and often reminisced about. They returned to Regina in the late summer of 1952. Rhonda and Dean were born shortly thereafter. Mona was the penultimate homemaker and she was a hostess extraordinaire. Her children grew up in a household filled with family and friends in abundance. Mona lived a full life and was always busy. She enjoyed skating; she wore a pair of speed skates and she knew how to use them. Mona enjoyed curling and eventually ventured onto the ski slopes, albeit with some trepidation. Mona belonged to a number of service organizations including IODE and Welcome Wagon. She was an active member of the Rotary Bridge Club and Engineers’ Wives. She played Mahjong with her close friends and sister for decades. Mona excelled as a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, wife, aunt, daughter and sister. As her family grew she and Bud hosted their children, their spouses and an ever increasing gaggle of grandchildren in Palm Springs, as a part an annual sojourn. The annual Palm Springs trips were delightful. Mona loved the family cottage at Katepwa Lake and much of her summer was spent in the Qu’Appelle Valley, with her family, over the course of the last 50 years. Memorial Service will be held at Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Sue Breisch officiating. Flowers most gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memory of Mona to The Arthritis Society, 110 - 2550 12th Ave. Regina, SK S4P 3X1.
