Rheta Lang

Obituary of Rheta Gladys Lang

Rheta Gladys Lang passed away at her home on January 17 at the age of 73 years. Rheta was born on January 5, 1942 in Estevan. Rheta attended school in Frobisher, North Portal and Oxbow. Later, she lived briefly in Brandon and Toronto before settling in Regina. She worked as a waitress, a sales clerk, a police matron, and as a telemarketer. Rheta had a generous heart and readily volunteered on the Regina Sexual Assault line, in the soup kitchen at the Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, and canvassed for the Regina Firefighters Burn Fund. Rheta was a voracious reader and loved to do puzzles. She also enjoyed listening to CBC radio programs and was always “in the know” about current events and politics. Rheta was known to call in to radio programs to voice her opinion on the political issue of the day - or to simply request a song. Rheta loved to play the organ and enjoyed sharing her musical talents during social gatherings. She enjoyed socializing with her friends and spoke fondly of them. Rheta had the gift of gab and quite the sense of humour. As a very young girl she loved to perform recitations during social gatherings and in her teen years performed a humorous monologue on Minot television. Rheta loved to tell stories and had an incredible memory, often sharing her memories of things family did in younger years. Though Rheta never married or had a family of her own, her extended family were very important to her. She took pride in keeping abreast of the lives and activities of her brother, sisters, and many nieces and nephews and delighted in family visits. Rheta will be lovingly remembered by her brother Gary (Betty) Lang of Carnduff; sisters Betty Klein of Maple Ridge, BC and Edith Strong of Toronto; 15 nieces and nephews, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Robert James Lang and Helen Doris “Nellie” Lang; her sister Helen “Katie” Howard, and niece Gwendolyn Downing. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rheta’s memory can be made to the Hospitals of Regina Foundation, Regina Sexual Assault Centre, Regina Firefighters Association Burn Fund or a charity of your choice. A Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at 1:00 p.m.
