Obituary of Michael Nikolaos Makropoulos

MICHAEL NIKOLAOS MAKROPOULOS With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Michael Nikolaos Makropoulos on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 in Regina, Saskatchewan at 81 years of age. Michael was born April 17, 1933 to Nikolaos and Marina Makropoulos in Kastri, Kynourias, Greece, the fifth of ten children. He captured his beautiful bride’s heart, Kalliope (Makris) Makropoulos, in Kastri, Greece. In 1954 he began his career in tailoring, then choosing to immigrate to Chicago, Illinois in 1964. After 13 years, he moved his wife and three children to Saskatchewan, Canada. He then entered the realm of restaurant ownership. Michael set an exemplary example as a loving husband, unparalleled father and joyful grandfather. He was spiritually strong and compassionate, and had a clever sense of humor that twinkled in his brilliant crystal blue eyes. Above all, he loved and cherished his family and friends. He was actively involved in his garden, enjoying the fruits of his labours specifically his apples, cherry tree and grapevines. Michael is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Kalliope; adoring daughter Marina (Trevor Foster) Makropoulos; admiring sons, Nikolaos Makropoulos and Peter (Susan) Makropoulos. ‘Pappou’ is greatly missed by his grandchildren, Michael and Maximos Makropoulos, and Ephraim Michael Foster; brothers, John (Arhodoula) Makropoulos and Christos (Sophia) Makropoulos; sisters-in-law, Anne (John) Sirounis and Eugenia (Marinos) Tsioros; brothers-in-law, John (Voula) Makris and Nick (Marina) Makris; in addition to numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and sisters. Prayer Service will be held at St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, 3000 Argyle Road on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Father Spyridon Vandoros officiating. Burial will follow at Regina Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, 3000 Argyle Road, Regina, SK S4S 2B2.
