Julie Lawson

Obituary of Julie Ann Lawson

Julie Lawson, late of Regina (formerly Regina Beach), passed away peacefully with family at her side on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Extendicare Parkside – Regina. Julie is predeceased by her parents Lawrence and Alyce Vera Klyne (née McKay). Julie is survived by: her sons, Glenn of Saskatoon, William (Linda) of Regina and Steven (Sophie) of Enfield, NS; grandchildren, twins Makauley and Luken and Miles; brother, Marty (Charlene) of White City; nephews, Ben (Stephanie) and Mackenzie; and, one grandnephew, one grandniece, numerous aunts and uncles and many cousins and friends. Julie was born in Balcarres, SK. Her Aunt Norma was there in those very early days providing care for baby Julie and her mother. Julie and her Aunt Norma shared a special bond throughout Julie’s life. Julie loved “the Beach” and spent almost every summer there as a youth and later lived there for most of her adult life; she is fourth-generation Regina Beach [her great grandfather William Henry McKay and great grandmother Ann Marie (Bellegarde) were early settlers of Regina Beach and grandfather, Edward (Agnes) was born and raised there as was her mother, Alyce.] Many of the photos depicting Julie growing up as a young girl spending her summers with family at Regina Beach were shared with her cousin Sharon or cousin Leanne and if the beach or train tracks weren’t in the background then it was likely “Granny’s” or Uncle Gerry’s horses and riding academy at Little Arm (Kinookimaw); typically in tow and underfoot was Julie’s little brother. Julie and Sharon spent much time together in Regina as young girls growing up and Auntie Alyce would sew the girls matching outfits for church leading many to assume they were twins. Julie was an excellent student, could sing like an angel and was a talented pianist whose tireless practice and grades achieved led her to teaching piano. Julie believed in social change and advancement for Saskatchewan’s Métis and First Nation people and never felt it necessary to join the ranks of other activists and instead chose to campaign with pen and paper. In ensuing years, Julie could count on many friends and relatives, not the least of whom were Laurena and Charlene and she shared a unique connection with her dear late cousin, Kathy (a.k.a. Cutie) of Qu’Appelle. Julie loved her three grandchildren deeply and always beamed when her nephew, Mack would enter the room or answer the phone. Julie’s faith in the Lord was unwavering. A Memorial Service will be held for Julie at a later date and will be announced at that time. Flowers gratefully declined. Those so wishing can make donations in Julie’s memory to the Regina Humane Society, by calling 306-543-6363 or mailing Box 3143 Stn. Main, Regina, SK S4P 3G7.
