Obituary of James Robert Carter

JAMES ROBERT CARTER 1956 - 2015 It is with both sorrow and relief that we announce the passing of Jim Carter, surrounded by family and friends, on Monday, February 16, 2015. Weakened by a lengthy and challenging battle with cancer, Jim succumbed to pulmonary fibrosis at the age of 58 years. He was predeceased by his father Bob Carter. Jim is survived by his mother Flo Carter; sister Lynn (Dean) Ast; and cherished niece and nephew, Lindsay and Jordan. Jim was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, attending Campbell Collegiate. He found a home at the Co-op Refinery in 1977, forging a career that would last 34 years, retiring in 2011. He made many dear and lifelong friends at the refinery. Music was a passion for Jim, taking piano lessons in his childhood, recording countless hours of music on his cassette and open reel tape decks, and hanging out with the Queen City Kids. His stereo was always the envy of his buddies. Although he enjoyed motorcycles, classic cars and skiing, his true love was being on the water. Jim spent summers at the family cottage at Katepwa Lake for most of his life, enjoying sailing, power boating and water skiing, and the carefree freedom of the sun and the waves. He spent his later years living at Regina Beach, building his dream garage and shop, boating as much as possible, and enjoying the company of his cats. Jim will be remembered as a free spirit, who cared deeply about those closest to him, and believed in enjoying life to the fullest. The family wishes to recognize and thank all of Jim’s friends who have shared in and supported him throughout his journey and most especially these last eighteen months, including Debbie and Danny Jahnke, Tom Moen and Kevin and Sheena Walker and their families. A Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, for those so wishing, memorial donations may be made to the Regina Humane Society, P.O.
