Irene Weir

Obituary of Irene Agnes Weir

IRENE AGNES WEIR September 23, 1930 – March 3, 2015 Irene Weir passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, surrounded by her family, at the age of 84 years. It is with tremendous sadness that we say goodbye to our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. We take comfort knowing that she is now at peace. Irene is predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Grant Weir; her parents, Charles and Annie Abday; brothers, Frank (in infancy), Steve, Paul and Andy; and sisters, Margaret (in infancy), Anne Youskow, “Tillie” Erbach and Judy Ulmer. She is survived by her sons, Randy (Flora), Roger (Gaylene), Blair (Emmie) and Glenn (Kathy); grandchildren, Laurie, Dale (DeLee), Derek (Lindsay), Trevor (Danielle), Brock (Gabrielle), Kara (Troy), Paul, Cristina, Logan, Carter and Kayla; great-grandchildren, Hayleigh, Tanner, Peightyn, Emma and Tristan; brothers, Mike (Freda) and Frank (Vivian); sisters, Ethel Abday and Helen (Jack) Aulie; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Irene was born and raised on a farm near Stockholm, SK as part of a hardworking, humble, close-knit, Hungarian family. Irene and Grant married on October 25, 1951 and stayed on the Weir family farm near Dubuc, SK until 1957 when they moved with their two young sons, Randy and Roger, to Regina where Blair and Glenn were later born. Irene lived a simple, happy life. She worked to help support her family as a short order cook at Dog’n’Suds and the Red Grille at Northgate Mall Woolco, and as a greeter at Walmart, retiring in 1997. Irene loved to spend time knitting, picking berries, watching TV, reading the paper, cooking, baking and IRONING!! Grant and Irene enjoyed many good times with family and friends. Irene was tolerant, easy going and always full of lively chatter and fun. She accepted and loved her children, grandchildren and their friends unconditionally, which earned her the respect, loyalty, devotion and adoration of all those who knew her. Many hours were spent with her grandchildren sharing treats, following their activities, babysitting and hosting lots of sleepovers. Declining health resulted in many lifestyle changes for both Grant and Irene in their later years. Irene and those who loved her were greatly affected by the progression of her Alzheimer’s. Grant spent his final years devoted to Irene and her care. Special thanks to Blair and Emmie for their dedication to Mom’s care and to all of Irene’s caregivers, especially the staff of 3-West at Regina Pioneer Village. A Celebration and Remembrance of Irene's life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Ave, SK on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with lunch and interment to follow. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Irene’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan Inc., 2550-12th Avenue, Regina, SK, S4P 3X1. <iframe id="funeral_recording_player_512x460" src="http://webcast.funeralrecording.com/events/embed_viewer/7942" width="512" height="524" scrolling="no" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0"></iframe>
