Obituary of Marie Dolores Roman

Marie Dolores Roman passed away April 1, 2015 at the Sunset Extendicare in Regina, Saskatchewan. She was born November 6th, 1930 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan—a daughter for Edwin and Rose Marvin, and a sister for Wendell and Ronald. She was educated at St. Agnes School and the Convent of Sion. She spent her growing up years dancing for “Wynjoy Studios,” she was the first in the city to have a baton, and skated the winters away on long blade racer skates. After working at the Telephone Office she moved to Regina to become a Registered Nurse at the Grey Nun’s Hospital, graduating in May 1953 with the “General Proficiency Medal.” She married Wilf Roman on December 30, 1953. They raised their three children, Donna, Nancy, and Richard with love and devotion. Their happy home was a gathering place for family and friends, where all occasions were celebrated. Marie was a member of St. Martin de Porres R.C. Parish in Regina, an active member of the Catholic Women’s League for fifty-nine years, and in 2005 she was instrumental in forming the group “Women on their Own.” She was the Executive Director of Birthright Regina for nine years and was a member of the Santa Maria volunteers for thirty years. Marie led an active full life, shared the love and friendship of a wide circle of friends, and kept our extended family connected. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, her husband Wilf (1997) and her son Richard (2014). She is survived by daughters Donna Strauss of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and her family Erin, Dana, Jenna, Maggie and great grandson Dylan; and by Nancy (Will) Garrett-Petts of Kamloops, B.C. and their children Kate (Eric) and Samantha; Richard’s children Stephanie and Ryan; several nieces and nephews (Dick Marvin of Elora, Ontario), and her sister in law Angel Roman of Kitchener, Ontario. She has been a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother (the best), grandmother, great grandmother and friend; and she will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew her. Father Peter Pham will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Martin de Porres R.C. Church, 4720 Castle Road, Regina Saskatchewan. All are invited to the parish hall to share lunch after mass. Burial to follow at Regina Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations to Santa Maria Volunteers or St. Martin Memorial Fund would be appreciated. The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Stephen Bester, for his extraordinary care; the staff of 3D at the Pasqua Hospital; niece Nettie Uhren; Father Peter Pham; and to Marie’s amazing circle of friends, whose love and support brought her such joy. RICHARD RONALD ROMAN A Graveside Service for Marie’s son Richard, who passed away November 9, 2014, will also be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Marie and Richard will be interred together.
