Obituary of Margaret 'Evelyn' Reece

MARGARET ‘EVELYN’ REECE (née STRANDBERG) 1940 – 2015 Evelyn passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2015. She is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years Benjamin; daughter Betty (Jay) Weaver; grandson Reece; sisters, Marlene Tonhauser, Merinda Currie and Loretta Densky; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Martin and Karin (Hilmo) Strandberg; brother Brian; and sisters, Edith Keil and Martha Flick. Evelyn was born on June 3, 1940 in Kelliher, SK. She met Ben after the Strandberg family relocated to Regina while working at Sharpe’s Hatchery. Evelyn and Ben lived in Regina during the winter months and on the farm at Qu’Appelle in the summer. Evelyn loved to listen to Johnny Cash and Charlie Pride – they would play for hours. She enjoyed playing cards and watching her teach Jay how to play Kings in the Corner and Canasta was a joy. Evelyn doted on her only grandson Reece and their smiles when together would light up the room. In Evelyn’s younger years, she could be found curling and bowling whenever possible. It was common for her to be serving at one of the United Church teas or suppers over the years. It wouldn’t have been a Strandberg/Hilmo family gathering without her famous matrimonial cake – she happily shared all her secrets to get it just right. A Memorial Service will be held at Qu’Appelle Lions Club Hall, Qu’Appelle, SK on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those so wishing make a donation in memory of Evelyn to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1.
